Spreading the Traditional Cultural Values of Vietnam – Japan

Vietnam and Japan share many similarities in traditional culture, such as the art of tea, calligraphy, and traditional crafts… but they also have distinctive differences. The workshop “Spring Encounter” was organized to deepen understanding of these similarities and differences, while also promoting the traditional cultural values between Vietnam and Japan.

 Origami Paper-Folding Practice

The event offered a unique experiential space, where the public had the opportunity to explore and engage with Vietnamese and Japanese artisans through activities such as: performing and experiencing Vietnamese – Japanese calligraphy under the guidance of Ms. Otake Miki – Head of the Sara no Kai Association – and painter Thai Tinh – President of the Life School Club, Natural Colors; practicing Origami – a unique traditional Japanese art – under the guidance of paper-folding artist Nguyen Nam Son; experiencing and enjoying traditional Japanese tea ceremonies to appreciate meditation, serenity, and refinement through the ritual of tea tasting, guided by artisan Vu Thi Huyen Trang – Vice Head of the Ryoan Tea Ceremony Club, Omotesenke school.

In addition, visitors had the chance to explore and learn about the traditional Yen Thai Do paper-making craft through artifacts from the Hanoi Museum and Zo Project displayed at the workshop. They could also experience products made from Do paper, appreciating how cultural heritage is applied creatively in contemporary life.

The workshop was not only a space for experiencing creative art but also a spiritual bridge between the two cultures, helping to raise awareness of preserving and promoting folk cultural values.

Speaking at the event, Director Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa said: Through this activity, the Hanoi Creative Activities Coordination Center hopes to encourage creative community groups to participate in promoting traditional cultural values, creating cultural–creative products, enhancing cultural and spiritual life, contributing to urban revitalization, and promoting Hanoi’s image to international friends.
