Over the past years, Thuong Tin district has always paid attention to and effectively implemented the sports movement by creating a healthy and useful playground for residents, practically contributing to the establishment of grassroots cultural life and public health care.

In order to create favorable conditions for the development of physical training and sports in the district, all levels of Party committees and authorities from districts to grassroots levels have always paid attention to the construction and investment of facilities for playing yards, training grounds and sports equipment to meet the needs of residents. Currently, 27/29 of communes and towns in the district were provided with stadiums to meet residents’ daily sports needs. In addition to the budget, the district has mobilized budget resources from units, enterprises and individuals for organizing some sports tournaments such as the Football Tournament for male youth – the Business Association Cup and badminton, tennis, table tennis tournaments…so that athletes may compete, learn experience and improve the movement quality at the grassroots.

The campaign “All residents do exercise following the great Uncle Ho’s example” which was widely deployed in association with the movement “All residents join in building up new countryside and civilized urban areas” created an exciting sports movement in residents of all classes. Currently, the district has maintained the operation of 148 sports clubs for badminton club, table tennis, gymnastics, volleyball, football, bicycle, attracting the participation of a large number of residents at all ages in the area and creating useful and healthy playgrounds which have contributed to the health care and the strengthened solidarity among residents of all classes. By the end of 2021, the percentage of residents participating in sports and doing exercises reached 39% of the total population and the percentage of sports households reached 26% of the total number of households.

The District Center for Cultural, Information and Sports has annually organized sports tournaments to discover and select athletes who have attitude for sports, then provided them with fostering, coaching and training to improve their achievements and rankings at City level sports tournaments. Up to now, the Center has maintained 5 classes of gifted ones at district level, including classes of athletics, table tennis, badminton, women’s football and U11 men’s football; There are 2 women’s football classes of line 3 of the City Center for Sports Training and Competition. The district has annually trained and selected around 30 male and female athletes for the youth teams of Hanoi City. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, many tournaments were postponed, but in 2021, the district’s athletes participated in the city tournaments for high schools and won 26 medals of all kinds, including 8 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 10 bronze medals in sports such as table tennis, badminton, shuttlecock, athletics…
In the coming time, Thuong Tin district will continuously paid attention to the sports movements, contributing to the good implementation of the Program No. 04-Ctr/HU dated 22 August 2020 of Thuong Tin District Party Committee on “Implementing cultural and social development on the basis of traditional culture and continuously strengthening the building the image of elegant and civilized Thuong Tin people; improving the quality of district human resources in 2020 – 2025 period”.
