Organized by the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts Studies in collaboration with RMIT University and UNESCO Office in Hanoi, the Vietnam Festival of Creativity and Design (VFCD) is a series of inspiring and knowledge-sharing events, diverse creative experiences for anyone with passion and interest in creativity and design.

Last year, the festival took place from November 6-22 in Hanoi, Hue and Ho Chi Minh City with many online events. The festival emphasizes on creative messages, cultural characteristics and resources of three big cities in Vietnam. In Hanoi, the message is “Creativity & Culture”; in Hue, the festival conveys the message “Creativity & Heritage”; in Ho Chi Minh City, the festival’s message is “Creativity & Breakthrough”.

This year, with the theme “Creative Future”, VFCD 2021 will be launched online on October 20. This year’s festival program includes cultural heritage tours, talks/workshops, exhibitions and various online activities discussing visions, trends, cultural identities and future opportunities for Vietnam’s creative industry. The festival is also an opportunity to connect creative organizations and individuals, to honor talents and unique contributions to creativity and design.

Last August, the Organizing Committee of VFCD 2021 announced the results of the Graphic Design Contest: Key images and creative applications. The first prize was awarded to a student named Nguyen Ngoc Thu, 21 years old in Hanoi. Nguyen Ngoc Thu’s design ideas for VFCD 2021 will be further developed and will become the main image throughout this year’s festival.

Ms. Thu’s design is inspired by everyday life with very rustic and idyllic images: like the burden of street vendors carrying childhood memories, conical hats, flowering rice, and Vietnam western boats rest after taking guests, or wooden dragonflies swinging on their fingers when they were children. Symbols are associate with the lives of workers and evoke Vietnamese traditional beauties, expressing connection, balance and movement — symbolizing a country that carries values from the past but does not stop moving into the future.

With more than 30 rich activities with practical topics discussing the latest trends and experiences of creativity and design, the Vietnam Festival of Creativity and Design will continuously open interesting multi-dimensional stories, is full of excitement about sustainable design, folklore, creative education, technology application, digital storage… contributing to the development of Vietnam’s creative industry in general and contribute to the future development and change of Hanoi Capital – Creative City in the field of design in particular.
