At the conference, Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien said that Vietnam Sports had a successful 2018, especially in football. Early of the year, the U23 team won the 2nd prize of U23 Asian Cup which pleased the fans; a 4th prize at Asian Games and a highest prize of AFF as closing the year.

As a result, Vietnam Olympic Committee paid special attention to preparing the work for Vietnam Sport delegation to attend SEA Games 30, ASEAN Para Games 10 in the Philippines, the 1st World Beach Games in the US, Winter Olympics in Switzerland, jointly preparing for participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifiers and the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic.
Also at the Conference, Deputy General Director of the General Department of Sports and Exercise Tran Duc Phan said: Up to this time, the competition program of SEA Games 30-2019 is defined as 56 subjects with 63 disciplines, 523 events for competition, expected to draw more than 8,000 athletes from 11 countries and territories in the region. Through the review process, Vietnamese sports assessors have enough forces to attend 36/56 subjects, 42/63 subjects, and compete for 350/523 competitions.
Attending SEA Games 30, Vietnam faced difficulties, that is, many Olympic games and ASIAD was cut down by key contents of the host organizers of the Philippines. In which, there are 4 contents of the forte: 5,000m, 10,000m, race walking for men and women; shooting, Vietnam lost 4 advantage contents; swimming, 800m swimming content which are dominated by Huy Hoang. Although difficult, but one of the key tasks of Vietnam Sport in 2019 is to compete successfully in the SEA Games 30. Vietnam Sport delegates will be present at 2019 SEA Games will include 500 members, striving for 65 HCV and above, ranking third in the Congress. Along with that, Vietnam U22 football team participating in the 30-2019 SEA Games will also receive special investment and preparation for the SEA Games 31-2021.
Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien awarded the gold medal for the Asian Games Pencak Silat athletes.
In the evening of the same day, Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien also chaired the Ceremony to review the outstanding coaches and athletes in 2018. At the Ceremony, Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien announced the good news, the Vietnam Sports Group unexpectedly won an additional gold medal for pencaksilat, a bronze medal for 29-2017 SEA Games jumper, by the Southeast Asian Sports Federation to discover Thai pencaksilat teammate and pair of Malaysian jumping athletes were positive doping. Along with that, BTC decided to promote the Silver Medal of Vietnamese athletes. Therefore, 3 pencaksilat boxers Nguyen Thi Huyen, Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Nguyen Thi Thuy and 2 diving athletes Nguyen Phuong Anh and Ngo Phuong Mai, on behalf of the 29th SEA Games Organizing Committee- 2017, were awarded medals by Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien.
In addition, the head of the MOCST and the Vietnam Olympic Committee also awarded the Medal of the Vietnam Olympic Committee to the athletes who had many outstanding achievements of Vietnam Sports in the past 2018.
