Defeating Thai rival Chatchai-Decha Butdee in the quarter-finals of the men’s 51-54kg weight category at the boxing’s elimination round in 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games – Asia-Pacific region, martial artist Nguyen Van Duong became a fifth Vietnamese athlete who won the ticket to the 2020 Olympic Games.

Nguyen Van Duong won the ticket to the 2020 Olympic Games for Vietnam’s sports.

Thus, as of March 11, with this ticket, Vietnam Sports had 5 official seats in the 2020 Olympic Games, of the athletes of swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang (reaching two Olympic distance standards of 400 m and free 1,500 m), gymnastics athlete Le Thanh Tung, two archery athletes Do Thi Anh Nguyet and Nguyen Hoang Phi Vu and boxer Nguyen Van Duong.
According to the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, the goal 2020 of Vietnam Sports is to strive to win 20 seats in Olympic games in Tokyo. Therefore, in the coming time, the teams continue to promote the practice and participate in the point-accumulation tournaments to qualify for the Olympic Games. With the above goal, the remaining 15 seats are challenging for Vietnam Sports. Hopefully, shortly, subjects such as athletics, shooting, taekwondo, karate-do in international tournaments or Olympic Games’ elimination round will help Vietnam gain more seats in the Olympic Games.
The time from now to June 2020 is to decide the number of Vietnam Sports’ tickets to attend the 2020 Olympic Games. During this time, continental competitions compete for tickets directly and the final tournament finalizes the accumulated points to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games. Therefore, Vietnam’s Sports will maximize the funding for key athletes who are capable of winning tickets to the 2020 Olympic Games so that they compete and train internationally.
At the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil, Vietnam’s Sports has the record number of 23 athletes, of which shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh won 1 gold medal and 1 silver medal. To accomplish the goal of 20 seats, the Vietnamese athletes are making efforts towards the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
