Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi People\u2019s Committee Vu Thu Ha has signed Decision No. 331\/KH-UBND dated December 8, 2025, approving the Plan for Hanoi\u2019s elite sports activities in 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under the Plan, Hanoi aims to contribute at least 30% of the coaching staff and athletes representing Vietnam at the 20th Asian Games (ASIAD), to be held in Japan in 2026, and to account for approximately 30% of the gold medals in the overall achievements of the Vietnam Sports Delegation at the Games.<\/p>\n

Hanoi is also determined to maintain its top position nationwide at national championships and national youth championships in sports that represent the city\u2019s traditional strengths, including archery, shooting, women\u2019s boxing, sepak takraw, chess, weightlifting, athletics, karate, fencing, kickboxing & Muay Thai, diving, wrestling, wushu, and others. The city will focus on improving performance and restoring its competitive standing in sports with strong potential, particularly those included in the Olympic and ASIAD competition systems, and on developing athletes capable of qualifying for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Priority will be given to key sport groups, including ASIAD events, the National Sports Games, the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), Olympic-qualifying sports, and newly developed disciplines.<\/p>\n

In 2026, Hanoi plans to mobilize 498 coaches and 3,088 athletes from the Hanoi Police Football Club, along with 22 coaches and 129 athletes in newly developed sports. Training activities will include 109 domestic training camps, 55 overseas training programs, participation in 280 domestic competitions and 190 international competitions, and the engagement of 14 domestic and international experts.<\/p>\n

To achieve these goals, Hanoi has outlined a series of concrete measures. These include focusing on athlete development and team building by prioritizing investment in promising young talents, establishing a comprehensive management and development system from recruitment and nurturing through domestic and overseas training and international competition. Key athletes will be encouraged to participate fully in official international competitions organized by regional, continental, and global federations and associations to gain competitive exposure, accumulate ranking points, enhance professional skills and physical fitness, refine tactics, and strengthen competitive psychology.<\/p>\n

The city will also invest in upgrading and modernizing sports facilities, technical infrastructure, and essential equipment to meet international standards for high-performance training and competition. Athlete support policies will be gradually improved, with appropriate incentive schemes introduced to attract sports talents from across Vietnam and abroad to train and compete for Hanoi.<\/p>\n

In addition, Hanoi will strengthen the training and professional development of coaches to national and international standards, building a strong core of head coaches and key coaches for national teams. Renowned coaches and experts from countries with advanced sports systems will be invited to provide specialized training for elite athletes. Science and technology will be applied to develop comprehensive databases and software systems for elite sports management and research.<\/p>\n

Hanoi also plans to host national, regional, Asian, and international sporting events in coordination with the Vietnam Sports Authority under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, as well as national sports federations and associations. Investment projects will be implemented to renovate, upgrade, and modernize facilities at the Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center to ensure compliance with international standards.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Hanoi will promote cooperation, exchanges, and experience-sharing with sports authorities in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, and Guangxi (China), as well as with countries such as the Republic of Korea, Japan, and Thailand, to advance high-performance sports development. Cooperation will also be expanded with traditional partners in Southeast Asia, Asia, and internationally, alongside strengthened exchanges with provinces and cities nationwide.<\/p>\n

The city will create favorable conditions for enterprises, major corporations, organizations, and individuals to participate in the socialization of sports, including investment in athlete training facilities and sponsorship and patronage for sports teams and talented athletes.<\/p>\n
