On the afternoon of December 16, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports held a press conference on the Hanoi Food and Culture Festival 2025. The festival will take place from December 19 to 21 under the theme \u201cHanoi \u2013 A Culinary Journey Connecting Creativity\u201d at Thong Nhat Park.<\/strong><\/p>\nThis is an annual event directed by the Hanoi People\u2019s Committee, aiming to promote the value of culinary cultural heritage while contributing to the implementation of Resolution No. 09-NQ\/TU of the Hanoi Party Committee on cultural industry development, in which cuisine is identified as a field with great potential, both preserving cultural identity and creating growth momentum for tourism and creative industries.<\/p>\n
At the opening ceremony on the evening of December 19, the Organizing Committee will announce the decision to inscribe \u201cThe Knowledge of Preparing and Enjoying Cha Ca La Vong\u201d on the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, while also introducing the story of six generations of the Doan family who have preserved this iconic dish.<\/p>\n

To date, Hanoi has seven culinary heritages inscribed on the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, including Hanoi Pho, Me Tri green rice flakes, Quang An lotus tea, Phu Thuong sticky rice, Thanh Tri steamed rice rolls, and the knowledge of preparing Bat Trang ceremonial feasts.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s festival will feature 60 culinary spaces introducing Hanoi cuisine and regional specialties, combined with a wide range of activities such as thematic seminars on culinary human resource development, artisan demonstrations, and cooking competitions for students. Notably, the heritage green rice experience space will be designed along a route stretching from the Nguyen Dinh Chieu gate to the central area, showcasing creative products made from green rice flakes.<\/p>\n
A highlight of the festival is the \u201cA Thousand Words of Pride\u201d check-in space, where residents and visitors can share their pride in Vietnamese Pho. Alongside this are traditional and contemporary art performances, photo and book exhibitions, and culinary heritage demonstrations, all contributing to a vibrant space for exchange and immersive cultural experience.<\/p>\n
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Van Bai, Vice Chairman of the National Council for Cultural Heritage, more than 80% of tourists are willing to spend money to experience cuisine at destinations, demonstrating that cuisine is not only a cultural resource but also a distinctive tourism product that helps position Hanoi\u2019s cultural brand within the flow of the modern cultural industry.<\/p>\n
