Field visit to Son Tay Ancient Citadel

As shown in the report at the monitoring meeting, to implement Resolution No. 11 of the City People’s Council, Son Tay town has directed all levels and sectors to focus on implementation through the promulgation and concretization of resolutions and decisions on cultural development, in association with local socio-economic development plans. Closed attention is always paid to the management, conservation and promotion of the value of historical and cultural relics in combination with tourism, services and economic development.

Since 2012, the town has allocated investment in cultural development, especially the restoration and embellishment of relics and construction of cultural institutions with a total budget of more than 544 billion dongs. Up to now, the town has 75/244 ranked cultural and historical relics (including 16 national-level monuments, 59 provincial/municipal level relics); There are 78 intangible cultural heritages, including the Va Temple festival which is recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage. Relic planning is a priority. The planning on preservation and promotion of the value of the Duong Lam ancient villages has been approved and deployed; at the same time, the endorsement of planning for zoning and protection of Duong Lam ancient villages has been submitted to the competent authority for approval.

Additionally, cultural institutions have been built, exploited and managed in a synchronous manner with increasingly high quality, basically meeting the daily needs of the people. In the town, 114/118 villages and residential quarters have cultural houses, reaching 96.6%; 15/15 communes and wards establish a management board of village cultural houses and residential groups with 582 members. Movements of culture, mass art, and sports are increasingly diverse and abundant, attracting a large number of people to participate, contributing to the successful implementation of political tasks and socio-economic development, and national defense in the locality.

Standing Vice Chairwoman of the City People’s Council Phung Thi Hong Ha delivered an ending speech at the monitoring session

In her ending speech at the monitoring session, Ms. Phung Thi Hong Ha, Standing Vice Chairman of the City People’s Council, acknowledged that the Party committees and authorities of Son Tay town had seriously implemented Resolution 11 of the City People’s Council, thereby creating positive changes in the local culture. However, Ms. Ha also highlighted the existing deficiency, that is, the cultural development is not commensurate with the Doai tradition, no breakthrough; Propaganda should also be better promoted so that people may have the sense of preserving cultural traditions.

Ms. Ha suggested that, in the coming time, Son Tay will continue to strengthen the leadership and direction of the Party committees and authorities at all levels, creating consensus and mobilizing the masses to participate in the cultural development, promoting propaganda on the purpose, meaning and importance of cultural planning and development.

Ms. Ha emphasized that Son Tay town needs to review and evaluate the implementation of the local cultural planning, integrate the cultural development planning into the socio-economic development programs, schemes and plans of the town accordingly, promoting the cultural traditions of Doai, and associating the conservation of relics with tourism development, strengthening connections, building chains and unique tourism products to attract tourists, promoting socialization to create all resources for cultural development, actively coordinating with departments and branches to review the city’s policies related to cultural development, proposing proper endorsements accordingly.
