“Calligraphy giving and taking” in early Spring is a traditional cultural activity of Vietnamese people. Therefore, the Temple of Literature – Quoc Tu Giam Cultural-Scientific Center always pays the special attention to the Spring’s Calligraphy Festival with increasing quality, contributing to reviving a healthy traditional culture, preserving and promoting the value of Vietnamese calligraphy, as well as improving the aesthetic level and calligraphy understanding of the public.
Spring’s Calligraphy Festival’s space was decorated with bold traditional culture, including calligraphy performance booths of calligraphy writers and the calligraphy exhibition area with the theme “Good Ethics” and the traditional education and examination space, display area of products of traditional handicraft villages, and many cultural-rich games and many performances of folk songs, traditional arts … making the connection and return to Good values of national cultural traditions.

 “Good Ethics” is the theme of Spring’s Calligraphy Festival this year.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Bui Thi Thu Hien, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, affirmed that over 5 years of organization, the Spring’s Calligraphy Festival has become a meaningful and attractive cultural event, attracting numerous visitors and the public not only in the Capital but also from many parts of the country and international friends as well. The Spring’s Calligraphy Festival contributes to arousing and spreading the good values of the Temple of Literature – Quoc Tu Giam and inspires an education that values Ethics and Talent.

In addition to the calligraphy booths of 52 calligraphy writers arranged in front of Van (Literature) Lake, the area around Van Lake was devoted to the exhibition of 52 works of Chinese, Nom and Vietnamese script of the theme “Good Ethics”, with the desire to introduce the good values of the fond of study, filial piety, respect for teachers and respect for talents … through calligraphy works of contemporary life. Those cultural values contribute to nurturing the love for the heritage and national culture of the younger generation, and to the development of education “Good Ethics and Talent”.

Right in the opening ceremony, a lot of people of the Capital and tourists came to visit the Spring’s Calligraphy Festival, admire the calligraphy works and ask for the calligraphy works in the early year. The calligraphy writers were also excited to introduce the public about the Vietnamese traditional culture through the art of calligraphy.

 Many people came to visit and asked for calligraphy works on the opening day.

The Spring’s Calligraphy Festival 2020 took place until the end of February 5 and opened daily from 8 am to 8 pm,  particularly, opened to welcome New Year’s Eve and lasted until 2 am the next day on January 24 (ie on the 30th of Lunar New Year).
