Down to modern times, predecessors have always passed on the fine customs and practices to maintain the indispensable beauty in the Lunar New Year, the first of every customs is “Ringing out the Old Year and Ringing in the New Year”.

“Ringing out the Old Year and Ringing in the New Year” means removing the old and welcoming the new. This practice is usually prepared after seeing off Kitchen Gods to heaven. At that time, everyone cleans up everywhere, decorates houses, cleans the tables and chairs, prepares the food; throws away all unlucky things, sends away the hardships of the old year and welcomes good lucks in the new year.

After “Ringing out the Old Year and Ringing in the New Year”, at Thang Long Imperial Citadel, a series of experiences with the theme “Calligraphy in Spring” was held where the public and visitors experienced Tet market and learn about the ancient Tet through folk games. The highlight of Vietnamese Tet space in Thang Long Imperial Citadel is the Confucian exhibition space with the office of four precious items (including paper, ink, pen, ink slab) and many parallel sentences with profound meanings, expressing wishes about the Good things and prosperity in the new year.

On this occasion, in the area of Kinh Thien Palace, an exhibition of two topics: “The Ly, Tran, Le and Mac dynasties in the history of reign at Thang Long Imperial Citadel” and “Dragon – royal dynasty and authority” was also held to systematize the historical documents and describe generally the wise kings and successive dynasties creating the magnificent Thang Long Citadel, a center of long-lasting power in history. A series of cultural and artistic activities to celebrate the Party and the Year of the Rat 2020, with the theme “Calligraphy in Spring” lasted until February 2 (January 9, the year of the Rat).
