In the concept of the ancients, the phrase “xa thu” was used as a concept to refer to the united country and the cultural system was uniformly applied in all regions. The content of the calligraphy exhibition “Mot moi xa thu” is distilled from a couple of couplets at common house of the Temple of Literature relic area, that is: “Xa thu cong dao kiem thien ha/ Khoa giap lien de co hoc cung” (Thien ha nay, xa thu ve cung mot moi/Nha hoc xua, khoa giap xuat hien lien nhau)

The exhibition gathers more than 100 Han Nom and Quoc Ngu calligraphy works by 65 calligraphers from all over the country and internationally. The works on display with contents are distilled from Vietnamese literary works and the literary heritage associated with the Temple of Literature, praising the beauty of the country’s homeland, the spirit of studiousness, and respecting the religion and the talents of the Vietnamese people. The expression forms of calligraphy works are rich with forms of Chinese, Nom, and Quoc Ngu characters with brush and iron. This is also the first time that the iron pen genre has been included in the calligraphy exhibition, which has deepened the strict inheritance along with the promotion of traditional calligraphy in the contemporary Vietnamese cultural space.

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Tran Thi Van Anh said: The exhibition “Mot buc xa thu” is an activity in the series of 50 events of the Creative Design Festival, Hanoi city in 2022. From this exhibition, the Organizing Committee hopes to continue to receive close coordination between domestic and foreign management agencies and research agencies, especially clubs. Calligraphy clubs in Hanoi city, provinces and cities throughout the country to have more practical and increasingly large-scale creative activities, to contribute to raising awareness of the community, especially of the young generation in preserving and promoting cultural heritages and effectively implementing Resolution 09 of the Hanoi City Party Committee on developing the cultural industry to 2025, with a vision to 2030 and orientation to 2045. Especially, it is signigicant to build Hanoi capital into a civilized and modern city.

Also through the exhibition, the Organizing Committee introduces to the public the ideological, cultural and aesthetic values ​​deeply imbued in the poetic works of Vietnam’s historical periods under the expression of Calligraphy. The exhibition helps viewers feel the source of their father’s culture, which is always continued from tradition to modernity.

The exhibition “Mot moi xa thu” is an activity to honor the traditional cultural beauty of the nation through the art of calligraphy, contributing to preserving and promoting the quintessential national cultural values ​​in general and Hanoi capital in particular. The exhibition is also a place to gather and connect people who share the same passion for calligraphy art, contributing to preserving and promoting traditional cultural values ​​of the nation.
