On October 22, Mr. Tran Duc Phan – Deputy Director General, who is in charge of the General Department of Sports & Physical Education, chaired a meeting with the Technical and Professional Subcommittee of the SEA Games 31 to review the tasks in the preparation of SEA Games 31 to be organized in Hanoi and in a number of neighboring cities and provinces.

At SEA Games 31, Hanoi will provide 1/3 of the number of coaches and athletes in all events

According to the report of Mr. Hoang Quoc Vinh – Director of the Department of High Level Sports I, currently, the disciplines have been rushing to complete the preparation for the organization of the SEA Games 31, with the highest level of expertise but still ensuring the balance of savings, minimizing costs in the face of the general difficulties of the economy during the two years of fighting the Covid-19 epidemic. Documents related to the Delegation Leader Conference have also been completed, the preparation of athletes and coordination with Hanoi city in implementing the plan to prepare the venue for events in the city have also been implemented on schedule.

To provide the most optimal organizational plan, the leaders of the Departments of High Level Sports I and II directed the disciplines to review all conditions of facilities, competition and training equipment in each locality that is expected to host events in the official competition system of the SEA Games. At the same time, they always listen to suggestions and feedback on difficulties and problems that the localities are facing in the process of preparation to respond to the requirements of the Central Organization Committee, to find the best solutions in a smoothly and timely manner.

According to Mr. Hoang Quoc Vinh, in difficult economic conditions, some conditions of facilities such as practice room, function room in the gymnasium, accommodation conditions of the participating delegations may be relatively satisfied. However, equipment, training and competition equipment must respond to the international standards to ensure the professional factors to achieve the best results.

Through reports as well as comments from members of the Technical and Professional Subcommittee of the SEA Games 31, Deputy Director General Tran Duc Phan affirmed that although up to this point, the Politburo has not officially decided the time to organize SEA Games 31, the Government has allowed postponing the event until the second quarter of 2022. Although, the sports industry, as well as localities, are not in delay of preparations for this important international sports event. In addition to the best professional preparation, facilities and healthcare are given top priority, determining the success or failure of the event.

Because SEA Games 31 is planned to take place at a special time when the Covid-19 epidemic is still complicated in many countries around the world in general and in Southeast Asia in particular, special attention is given to healthcare in the organization plan. Specifically, all service staff related to SEA Games 31, by the beginning of 2022, need to be vaccinated with 2 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, or get a booster shot if the time of injection is about to expire. At the same time, before, during, and after SEA Games 31 takes place, the entire staff, service staff, and participating delegation members must perform a full PCR test. The disciplines must also work closely with localities to ensure the repair progress of the venue of SEA Games 31.

Along with that, Mr. Tran Duc Phan also directed the departments to closely follow Resolution No.128/NQ-CP of the Government promulgating the Interim Regulation on “safe and flexible adaptation and effective control over the COVID-19 epidemic” to develop a plan to organize sports tournaments in accordance with the actual situation, firstly in the last 2 months of 2021. Thereby, athletes have a chance to strengthen friction and the preparation force will be reviewed for the best preparation of SEA Games 31.
