Calligraphy Festival in Lunar New Year 2017: More diverse contents

 The Calligraphy Festival in Lunar New Year 2017 is held from the 24th of lunar December to the full-moon day of lunar January in 2017 (from January 21, 2017 to February 11, 2017) in Ho Van area. The opening ceremony is held at 9AM on January 21, 2017. Operation time is from 8:30AMM to 20:00 PM daily, especially on the 30th day of Tet, the operation time is to 2:00 AM in the next morning; on the 1st and 2nd day of Tet, the opeartion time is until 22:00PM. To serve the people and the visitors, Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam opens from 8:00AM to 22:00PM daily, from the 1st day to the end of the 7th day of Lunar New Year.

According to the Organization Board, this year’s contents are richer. The festival space is divided into zones, including: main stage, caligraphy, traditional craft village, introduction of folk paintings and painting experience of children “Joint creativity – exploration of the New Year’s paintings.” The new zone is the caligraphy zone arranged in front of Ho Van. The new character of this year’s Festival is to have more traditional craft villages, exhibiting products of Hanoi’s craft villages such as pottery, embroideries, folk paintings, wood carvings, bronze casting … especially recreating the space of an ancient houses in the northern village.

The caligraphy area is about 50 tents for 13 clubs and some free calligraphers. In order to ensure the quality of caligraphy, the Organization Board have completed the exams of caligraphers. The candidates includesthe caligraphers since 2014; Those who passed the previous exams are not required to be re-examined. This year, there are 77 masters participating in the caligraphy. Especially, the organization board also reserve some positions for over-70-year-old caligraphers who have participated in calligraphy lectures and exhibitions and contributed to the calligraphy activities in Hanoi since 2000 and are honored by Hanoi’s Calligraphy Clubs such as Cung Khac Luoc, Nguyen The Anh, Nguyen The Luc, Nguyen Nhu Phach, Nguyen Minh Chau…

In Calligraphy Festival in Lunar New Year 2017, There is also a calligraphic exhibition entitled “To honor the master and respect the teaching” to encourage the young generations of the Capital to constantly strive to study and show the inheritance and gratitude to the teacher generations of Vietnam; contribute to improving the quality of calligraphy and aesthetics and understanding of the public calligraphy; create the opportunities for people and especially young people to learn more about calligraphy. The exhibition displays 28 Chinese and Sino-Vietnamese caligraphy paintings in size of 70cm x 70 cm and 70 cm x 140 cm. These are selected by more than 70 works from calligraphy clubs in Hanoi, meeting the criteria of typography and quality of caligraphy.

Currently, all preparations for the Calligraphy Festival in Lunar New Year 2017 were well prepared. The Organization Board of the Festival has cooperated closely with the functional agencies to implement the plan for ensuring the environmental sanitation, security and order and fire prevention. All options are ready to ensure the success of the Festival which will be become the cultural meeting point of the capital’s citizens and visitors every New Year.
