With over 20 historical relics bearing the imprint of the Thang Long Imperial City, Tay Ho District holds a significant advantage in socio-economic development. However, this also poses a considerable challenge in terms of preserving, conserving, and maximizing the value of heritage during the development process.

Familiar Destination

As an integral part of contemporary life, creative cultural spaces play a vital role in shaping landscapes, providing green, clean, and beautiful environments, while simultaneously offering meaningful cultural and aesthetic experiences for the community. Going beyond qualitative values, cultural spaces serve as practical infrastructure, enhancing the quality of life for residents, fostering opportunities for cultural exchange, creating cultural values, and acting as an effective method to shape and maintain cultural identity, increasing the allure for tourists visiting the capital.

Tay Ho District is fortunate to be situated around West Lake, encompassing its entire administrative boundary. Surrounding West Lake is an area rich in cultural sediment, boasting over 20 historical sites with the distinct mark of the Thang Long Imperial City dating back a thousand years, such as Tran Quoc Pagoda, Tay Ho Palace, Dong Co Temple, featuring unique festivals, and traditional craft villages like Do Buoi handmade paper, Nhat Tan peach blossoms, Tu Lien kumquat trees, Quang An lotus planting, and Phu Thuong sticky rice.

This presents both potential and advantages for Tay Ho District, but it also poses an immense challenge for the Party Committee in preserving, conserving, and promoting the values of West Lake and its heritage during the development process.

Moreover, West Lake inherently carries cultural and spiritual values for every Hanoian, to the extent that it has become a cultural symbol of Hanoi across generations. To this day, “going to West Lake” remains a spiritual delight for Hanoians.

For today’s youth, Hanoi not only has its four seasons but also a season known as the “West Lake season.” Regardless of the time of year or the moment of the day, West Lake exudes its unique beauty, charm, and flavor that cannot be overlooked. This is the essence that has the potential to create a culturally valuable and distinctive space named the Creative Cultural Space of West Lake.

Therefore, Tay Ho District is focusing on constructing distinctive creative cultural spaces. These spaces aim not only to cater to the community’s recreational and entertainment needs but, more importantly, to “awaken” the potential and advantages of West Lake. They aim to comprehensively tap into the ecological potential of this area, particularly the historical and cultural values that align with practical conditions and current development trends. This approach is designed to meet the demands of the citizens of the capital and tourists alike.

Tay Ho District identifies that building creative cultural spaces around West Lake should be rooted in the historical and cultural aspects unique to the West Lake area.

Leveraging the Value of Historical Relics

In order to maximize the values that nature and history aspire to contribute to transforming Tay Ho District into the cultural, tourism, and service center of the capital, the district’s Party Committee will continue investing in planning, upgrading, and enhancing historical and cultural relics. This initiative aims to protect and promote the tourism value of these destinations.

The investment will focus on constructing cultural spaces, heritage sites, and revamping several gardens in the area. The approach will feature contemporary design, ensuring the preservation and promotion of heritage values while meeting the current needs of the residents for sophisticated, harmonious, and high-quality public spaces.

Simultaneously, the establishment of primary cultural spaces at historical sites and the enhancement of extracurricular educational programs on traditional cultural history for students in the area are being prioritized. The district has overseen the completion of the book set “Tay Ho – Land of Humanity,” dedicated to extracurricular teaching in elementary and middle schools throughout the district.

Furthermore, the district has concluded the project “Building a foundational (digitized) database system to serve the cultural preservation, management of historical sites, and the development of tourism in Tay Ho District.” This has led to the creation of a digital cultural space accessible to the community and young people, aligning with smart tourism trends, a prevalent and globally acknowledged travel inclination today.

In addition, the district will organize the linkage of landmarks, historical and cultural sites, and tourist destinations around West Lake, such as the Hong River rock bank, the flower valley, the cultural space, and the pedestrian street Trinh Cong Son. This aims to form complete tourist routes, combining spiritual and cultural tourism, eco-tourism, experiential tourism, and night tourism.

In collaboration with the Department of Culture and Sports and the Department of Tourism, the district ensures the successful organization of events, festivals, cultural and artistic activities, as well as sports activities within the common framework of the city, hosted at cultural spaces and pedestrian streets across the district.

Simultaneously, Tay Ho District is coordinating research to develop the riverbank area along the Hong River, exploring the potential of natural landscapes to construct a cultural tourism park with diverse and attractive recreational forms, including camping, hot air balloon rides, catering to the new entertainment needs of residents and tourists.

Tay Ho District organizes a Specialized Seminar on heritage education and local historical tradition education for students on the occasion of the 995th Anniversary of Dong Co Temple (Buoi Ward, Tay Ho District).

It is hoped that the efforts and endeavors of the Tay Ho District Party Committee in constructing creative cultural spaces will, to some extent, meet the cultural enjoyment needs of the residents, creating allure for Tay Ho District, and fostering creative inspiration and awareness of preserving and promoting the historical cultural values in each individual and visitor.

Moreover, alongside other districts and neighboring areas, Tay Ho District will contribute to enriching the various types of creative cultural spaces in the city, adding attraction and highlights to Hanoi. The city inherently requires a diverse palette of creative artworks, striking a balance between tradition and modernity to drive the development of innovative economy, cultural industry, and actualize Hanoi’s vision as a member of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network.
