According to the General Department of Physical Training and Sports, the goal of Vietnam Sports from now to the end of the year and the central mission of High-Achievement Sports focuses on two important jobs, namely, preparing the best resources and expertise for athletes attending the Tokyo Olympic’s qualifying tournament, next, reviewing and further accelerating the preparation for the 31st SEA Games held in Vietnam in 2021.
In order to fulfill these two tasks, Deputy Director General Tran Duc Phan said: Due to the prolonged epidemic of Covid-19, a series of international tournaments (Olympic’s qualifying round) was delayed without a future schedule,  which also more or less affected the roadmap and the goals of high-achievement Sports of Vietnam. Based on the epidemic situation and notifications of international sports organizations, the General Department of Physical Training and Sports has planned for training and participation in tournaments in the coming time in order to complete the assigned tasks.
The goal of Sport Vietnam is to win 20 tickets to the Tokyo Olympics in the major sports groups, however, up to now, Vietnam Sports has only had 5 official tickets to attend the Games, including swimming, gymnastics, archery and boxing.
Looking at the reality of the professional qualifications of the key group of athletes towards the Olympic arena, Vietnam Sports still has many opportunities to win the next tickets. It can be said that, with the current potentials and qualifications, the completion of the quota of 20 tickets to attend the Tokyo Olympics is very positive, but it is very difficult to win achievements (medals) at this playground”, added Mr. Phan.
The next important goal in 2021 is the 31st SEA Games hosted by Vietnam which take place mainly in Hanoi. The preparation of forces is still meeting required progress, method and plan. Currently, the General Department of Physical Education and Sports is working with Hanoi and some localities to review a series of venues and facilities that are expected to organize sports competitions in the 31st SEA Games system.

The important goal in 2021 is to organize the 31st SEA Games hosted by Vietnam, which takes place mainly in Hanoi.

However, facilities are a big concern for preparation when most of the gyms only have ventilation fans, no air conditioning system, and deteriorated tracks causing injuries if exercising with high intensity… Equipment at major locations for SEA Games such as National Sports Complex, Hanoi National Center for Information System has been degraded and consumed due to long-term use. The repair and upgrading to ensure the best conditions for the competition in each subject of the International Sports Federation will soon be accelerated by Hanoi and localities.
Directing at the meeting, Deputy Minister Le Khanh Hai highly appreciated the response preparation of the sports industry in Covid -19 epidemic prevention in the past time.

Deputy Minister Le Khanh Hai suggested that in the coming time, teams continue to focus on training and looking for opportunities to participate in the Olympics in 2021, on scoring tournaments and avoiding spreading. In terms of facilities, Deputy Minister Le Khanh Hai required to equip the necessary equipment in the short term to ensure the training for athletes.
With the 31st SEA Games held in Vietnam, Deputy Minister Le Khanh Hai requested the General Department of Physical Training and Sports to review the venue, evaluate the level of degradation, and coordinate with the ministries, departments and branches to repair and upgrade.
