The homepage of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) had an article: “The Opening Ceremony lights up Hanoi in spectacular celebration of Southeast Asia as the SEA Games officially begin”.  The IOC’s article read: “The opening ceremony of the 31st SEA Games was colorful, with lively performances and the slogan “For a stronger Southeast Asia”. The highlight is a beautiful lotus dance, symbolizing inspiration, aspiration and strength, and 11 folk paintings accompanying the dance”.

AFP news agency reported: “The host country- Vietnam had created a special performance with light, dance and music at the opening ceremony of the 31st SEA Games, overcoming unfavorable weather to have a real party”.

Singapore’s CAN channel impressed with the enthusiastic performance of the Opening Ceremony of the 31st SEA Games despite the unfavourable weather  

The Sanook of Thailand said that the Opening Ceremony of the 31st SEA Games simple and impressive.

Like AFP news agency, Singapore’s ANC channel also expressed its impression that the opening ceremony of the 31st SEA Games had blown up the spirit of the Games, despite heavy rain in Hanoi just a few hours before the start of the event.

“Gloomy skies but exuberant atmosphere as the 31st SEA Games officially opens in Hanoi” – ANC headlined. The article reads: “A rainy afternoon and a gloomy evening can’t be discouraged when the 31st SEA Games officially opens in Hanoi, Vietnam on Thursday (May 12th).

The atmosphere began to be bustling outside My Dinh National Stadium 2 hours before the ceremony. Undeterred by the unfavorable weather, fans took selfies and posed for photos amid the majestic scenery of giant hot air balloons with the flags of the 11 participating countries.

The Jakarta Post of Indonesia headlined: “The opening ceremony of the 31st SEA Games shows Vietnamese identity”. Thailand’s Sanook newspaper has a headline: “Simple and impressive! The atmosphere of Opening Ceremony of the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam. Malaysia’s The Star newspaper wrote: “The opening ceremony of the 31st SEA Games has emphasized the solidarity of Southeast Asian countries and the journey together over the years.”

Singapore’s The Strait Times shared the efforts of Vietnam and Southeast Asia to overcome difficulties when this was the first SEA Games held after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Strait Times quoted Singaporean boxer Pencak Silat Sheik Farhan: “The past two years have been really challenging for all of us. It’s hard to believe we’re here with the SEA Games. I am very emotional and proud to be walking on My Dinh stadium with my teammates”./.
