Opening exhibition of “National Names and Capitals of Vietnam in the Archives”

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Dang Thanh Tung, the Director of the State Records and Archives Management Department said that on January 3, 1946, President Ho Chi Minh signed the Circular No. 1C-VP emphasizing special values of archives for national construction. For the Vietnamese Archives industry, January 3 is of particular importance, so this date has been selected as the Vietnam Archives Date according to the Decision No. 1229/QD-TTg dated September 17, 2007 approved by Prime Minister.

Over the years, the Vietnamese Archives industry has never stopped developing and growing in all aspects. The industry has actively implemented the Law on Archives, built a system of legal documents on unified archiving, and enhanced its solutions to protect safety and promote effectively the value of national archives, especially in Vietnam’s struggle to assert sovereignty over the sea and islands. The efforts and attempts of all officials and employees of the Archives industry have made an important contribution to the overall achievement of the country, recognized and appreciated by the Party, State and the whole society, especially in the context of current e-Government construction. In 2020, the the State Records and Archives Management Department was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Prime Minister for its contributions.

According to Mr. Dang Thanh Tung, not only completing the system of legal documents; or bringing many valuable documents to serve the needs of the society and contribute to the cause of building and defending the Socialist Fatherland, the Vietnamese Archives industry has gradually strived to integrate with the world. Currently, Vietnamese Archives is one of 160 Class A members out of a total of 1,693 ICA members. Regarding bilateral cooperation, the State Records and Archives Management Department of Vietnam has established a cooperative relationship and signed Memoranda of Understanding and Cooperation Agreements with archives of 10 countries in the region and all over the world.

Industrial Revolution 4.0 features development based on the Internet of things and artificial intelligence that is fundamentally changing the world’s production. That context requires a change in the mode of leadership by the government, leading to the formation and development of e-government, in order to adapt to current and future management requirements. “It can be said that the mission of the archives industry is not only preserving the national historical documents but also has value for all mankind and that is also the general mission of the archive industry in the world. The mission of the Vietnamese archives is to preserve for future generations digital information and documents that are recording the current history.

In other words, building Digital Archive is the mission of the Archive industry in the context of e-Government, digital government”, affirmed Mr. Dang Thanh Tung.

Attending and speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Nguyen Duy Thang affirmed that records and archives play an extremely important role and value in the cause of building and defending the country, as the products of leadership and management and are the source of information that fully and honestly reflects all aspects of the social life, of a country, a locality, an agency or an organization. Therefore, right from the early days of the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, on January 3, 1946, President Ho Chi Minh issued the Circular No. 1C/VP to direct the management of records and archives of the State. It is the first step to show the correct and timely interest of the Party and State for the management of records and archives. This is also the guiding thought throughout the process of building the system of management agencies and the management regime for records and archives in the next stages.

In the coming time, Deputy Minister, Mr. Nguyen Duy Thang suggested officials of the State Records and Archives Management Department continue to contribute and dedicate themselves to improving the institution, strengthen the organizational apparatus to well perform the work of archives, promote archived document values, bring documents closer to the masses and social life.

In the framework of the activities celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Traditional Archives Day, the State Records and Archives Management Department held an exhibition of archives bearing the theme “ National Names and Capitals of Vietnam in the Archives”.

To introduce to the public precious woodblocks (Nguyen Dynasty’s woodblocks as the World Documentary Heritage) and some archival documents with content about our country’s National Names and Capitals from the Hung King to the now on. These are historical documents, evidence showing the aspirations, independent will, self-esteem, and national pride of the Vietnamese predecessors.
