Besides, the seminar is also an opportunity for the Hanoi Museum to collect more sources of information..

Accordingly, on April 17, the Hanoi Museum held the seminar titled “Photography with the preservation of Thang Long-Hanoi heritage” to preserve and promote the Thang Long-Hanoi culture. Besides, the seminar is also an opportunity for the Hanoi Museum to collect more sources of information about Hanoi.

Thang Long – Hanoi is full of attractions with famous historical-cultural sites such as Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam, Tortoise Tower-Ngoc Son Temple… Hanoi’s ancient architecture evokes the family cultural lifestyle in many generations. Hanoi Old Quarter is still crowded with its characteristic streets: Hang Bac, Hang Ngang, Hang Dao… In addition, Hanoi is also featured with the French-style streets and wide roads, covered with green trees and scatterred with European culture in the heart of the capital. All images of the life and  people in Hanoi City inspires the emotions for artists to compose their works in all fields, including the art of photography. Moreover, Thang Long Hanoi is also the heroic land, which, in many times, was the front line of the country to fight against and win many invaders. In “rain bomb”, no one can know how many people was sacrified for “Death assured for the life of fatherland”. At that time, many journalists and photographers have recorded the heroic historical moments when the capital’s people defeats the enemies, by the lively images of the fierce war.

The photographers have their own perspective to shows the beauty of Hanoi through their camera lens. They themselves choose their own specific view of Hanoi as their source of inspiration: such as small alleys, Hanoi architecture, daily life and natural scenery in the Capital. The beloved Hanoi is transmitted to the viewers through many perpectives, creativity and imprints. The public can enjoy the wider and fresh images of the old things…. All of them are the simple but most sincere ways of expressing the love with Hanoi.

Artist Photographer Mau Hoang Thiet as the former photojournalist of Tien Phong Newspaper is the founding member of Vietnam Photographers Association. Senior photographer Mau Hoang Thiet – now at the age of 87 – was awarded with State Prize for Literature – Art – Phase V by President (2016) for the special album “Rear in Wartime”. Coming to the seminar, he also brought some wartime photographs he had never published before … According to him, a wartime photographer needs has his own political perspective, understands who are viewers and ensure aesthetic merit as the indispensable factor.. With the difficulties in wartime, taking a photo which is valuable forever is considered as finding gold in sand

Artist Photographer Nguyen Huu Bao – born, growing and living in Hang Dao, Hanoi, is passionate about photography; therefore, he owns the high number of photographic materials of Hanoi, especially, Old quarter. He is author of “Beloved Hanoi” with 198 images of Hanoi in 1978-2015 period, which are true and not fictional…Thus, in the seminar, Artist Photographer Nguyen Huu Bao expressed anxiously: “The Hanoi Museum should pay attention to the way of seeking the photographic materials of Hanoi from the ancient time to now”.

Artist Photographer Nguyen Huu Bao is the editor of 4 documentary photo books about Hanoi: Hanoi on the Takeover Day, Remaining memories, Capital of Blood and Tears, and Resounding Oath of Determination to Die.

In the seminar, researchers, photographers, journalists and managers gave their opinions to what should be done for the purpose of preservation and promotion of Thang Long-Hanoi culture. In addition, the seminar is also an opportunity for the Hanoi Museum to receive the comments for the exhibition, as well as collect the material source of Thang Long-Hanoi to introduce to domestic and foreign visitors.
