2019 World Table Tennis Championships takes place from April 21 to April 28 in Hungary. The tournament appeals tons of strong competitors from 99 countries and territories. This is the annual tournament, in which the singles and doubles happen in odd numbered years while team events are held in even numbered years. For the record, Vietnam has never witnessed any medal awarded during the tournament. At this one, the No.1 seed is Phan Chan Dong, while the champion Ma Long is only the 11th seed.
Table tennis player Nguyen Anh Tu had an excellent performance in the tournament
The Vietnamese table tennis team participating in this tournament includes Nguyen Anh Tu, Doan Ba Tuan Anh, Nguyen Duc Tuan and Nguyen Khoa Dieu Khanh.
At the tournament, Anh Tu is the only Vietnamese representative passing the knockout round. In the preliminary rounds, Hanoi’s 26-year-old player defeated Calum Morrison and Mohammed Abdulwahhab with 4-0 and 4-1 respectively. Anh Tu went on a winning streak with the ratio of different 4-1 against the Dutch table tennis player who ranks 146th in the world – Tromer Laurens in the qualification to enter the main round. He lost the first game 11-13, but won four consecutive games after 11-7, 11-9, 12-10, 11-6.
In the round of 1/64, Vietnam No. 1 male player Nguyen Anh Tu had to stop at the tournament after 0-4 loss to the world No. 41 Darko Jorgic of Slovenia. This is the best achievement of Nguyen Anh Tu in the largest playground in the world, two years ago he stopped in the early rounds. Unlike Anh Tu, other players of the team did not create a big marvel when Doan Ba Tuan Anh, Nguyen Duc Tuan and Nguyen Khoa Dieu all three were eliminated in preliminary rounds. With the doubles content, couple Tuan Anh – Duc Tuan and Anh Tu – Dieu Khanh also stopped before the main round.
