Focus on cultural factors of Vietnam and ASEAN countries
In the past few days, as noted by the Economic & Urban reporter at My Dinh National Stadium, preparations for the opening ceremony of the 31st SEA Games are being urgently implemented. Units divided into groups, actively practiced day and night at 5 locations. On the evening of May 6th, the program directors continuously adjusted and guided the military band to move and perform the flag raising ceremony. Meanwhile, on the field of My Dinh National Stadium, groups of actors, athletes and volunteers took turns to practice art performances.
On May 8th, the Organizing Committee conducted a preliminary rehearsal of the opening ceremony, and the first final rehearsal will take place on May 10th, the second time on May 11th. The special art program in the opening ceremony of the 31st SEA Games will focus on notable cultural elements of Vietnam as well as other countries in Southeast Asia.
The director team has coordinated with the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and the Vietnam Olympic Committee to contact countries in the region to select unique images of their country, people, culture and art for presentation at the opening ceremony of the 31st SEA Games. Besides, images of logos, mascots of 40 sports were also designed and will be shown at the opening ceremony of the 31st SEA Games.
The Organizing Committee expects that the art program at the opening ceremony of the 31st SEA Games will bring domestic audiences and international friend beautiful images of Vietnamese culture, traditions and people, and simultaneously spreading the spirit and conveying the message of the 31st SEA Games – “For a stronger Southeast Asia”.
According to Meritorious Artist Tran Ly Ly – Acting Director of the Performing Arts Department, General Director of the Opening Ceremony of the 31st SEA Games, the program will be a grand performance in the stadium with the ceremony and festival interwoven with many chapters. The stage is a square which is 7,000m2, sound and light system, with the participation of thousands of artists, actors and students.
There will be about 5 grand scenes performed in the opening ceremony, showing off Vietnamese and Southeast Asian culture. Images of Vietnamese bamboo and lotus, ao dai, conical hat, etc. will also appear in the art program. The bamboo tree is an image showing the strong vitality and solidarity of the Vietnamese people. The highlight of the program is the combination and strong support of modern technology. Among them are graphic image projection technology (Mapping), augmented reality technology (AR), extended reality technology (Extended Reality – EX) …
Notably, the display of symbols of 40 sports of all countries will be shown as graphic images in Dong Ho paintings style.

Hanoi is ready for the opening ceremony of the 31st SEA Games
To best prepare for the organization and participation of the 31st SEA Games, leaders of Hanoi have regularly visit and encourage athletes, coaches and workers participating in the opening and closing ceremonies. At the same time, they inspect the preparation for the Opening Ceremony as well as other serving items of the organization of the 31st SEA Games,
Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Ms. Tran Thi Van Anh said that 16 venues that will be used for the 31st SEA Games in the city have been completed so far, ensuring readiness for athletes to compete. Regarding the preparation of the opening and closing ceremonies, the city has developed the script, established the director’s advisory council, and the tasks are implemented according to the schedule. At the same time, they have closely coordinated with the involving units to promptly figure out difficulties and remove obstacles to deploy the stage installation, lighting techniques… to ensure the facility for organizing the co-rehearsal, preliminary and final rehearsal of the opening ceremony on May 10th.
Regarding the communication and propaganda for the 31st SEA Games; Propagating and cheering the people of the capital to carry out a civilized lifestyle, building the image of Hanoi as an attractive, safe and friendly destination, these activities have been implemented by the city since the early day. The City has prepared ceremonial, state-of-the-art, cultural and artistic activities to serve the Games; the provision of logistics, tourism, medical, information technology, communication, image promotion of our country, people and Hanoi are also ready.
In addition, Hanoi has implemented plans to ensure security and safety, organize traffic flows in the area, to help sports delegations to attend the 31st SEA Games. Particularly, the Hanoi Youth Union had completed the recruitment and training of 3,000 volunteers to serve the Games’s activities at the competition venues.
Chairing a meeting to review the items of preparation for the 31st SEA Games last weekend, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Mr. Chu Xuan Dung suggested that all participating units and venue continue to strive for completion of the best quality in all categories to serve the 31st SEA Games; to carefully review the work of urban embellishment, environmental sanitation, sidewalks, roadbeds…The Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee also asked local units to drastically implement visual propaganda, hang flags and banners, create a joyful atmosphere in the city during the days of the 31st SEA Games.
As for the opening ceremony, the City People’s Committee determined that this is a solemn moment of the entire 31st SEA Games, so the fans’ costumes must be polite and dignified. The Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee also suggested several units to develop plans to organize drills and field events. He directly assigned the Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports to experiment with specific plans to avoid being passive and bewildered when organizing the opening ceremony.
Regarding the organization of local competitions, the Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee requested that for those places with direct competitions, the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the People’s Committees of the districts should act as the heads of the organizing committee to take care of the competitions in the best way possible. In addition to the preparation, the local attitude and affection towards the sports delegations is also very important because this is an opportunity to create and promote the image of elegant and civilized Hanoi people.
