Over the years, the Spring’s Calligraphy Festival has become an indispensable cultural event on the early day of a new year in Hanoi, contributing to arousing and spreading cultural beauty, improving the aesthetic level and calligraphy understanding of the writers and askers and the public of the Capital.

The activity aims at honoring the tradition of respects for teacher and ethics, study fondness, filial piety of the Capital’s younger generation, students and people of the Capital; encouraging the spirit of “Gratitude is the sign of noble souls”; meeting the need for “asking for calligraphy” in early days of the Spring – a healthy traditional culture, preserving and promoting the value of Vietnamese calligraphy.

According to the Director of Temple of Literature – Quoc Tu Giam Cultural-Scientific Center, Mr. Le Xuan Kieu, Spring’s Calligraphy Festival2020 with the theme “Good Ethics” derives from the name of a gate at the relic, meaning “study in companion with improving virtue” in ancient and present education. The festival attracts Han-Nom and Vietnamese script calligraphy teachers, famous calligraphers invited by the Center, calligraphy teachers with 3 consecutive years of participating in the festival relics at the relic and candidates passed the examination round of this year. The calligraphy teachers join in calligraphy writing in Van Lake area and perform calligraphy as well as promote the fondness of learning of the nation.

Besides the activity of Spring’s calligraphy-giving, Spring’s Calligraphy Festival 2020 also includes the exhibition of award-winning calligraphy works in the area of Van Lake; recreation of the traditional teaching and examination space (such as candidates to take the exams, performance of Do paper-making, scholars’ village …), spaces to honor and introduce some traditional trade villages and handicraft products of Hanoi, folk art performing space of Quan ho, Ca Tru, Nha Nhac of Hue royal court, singing of Xoan songs, Vi Dam…; visitors can enjoy the traditional cuisine and experience the traditional games of blind man’s bluff, Mandarin square capturing, beating earthen pots, Bamboo dancing, Tug of war …
