Three newly-named streets in Cau Giay District

Khuc Thua Du is named for the section from the intersection of Cau Giay street at No. 299 to the intersection of Thanh Thai street at the opposite point of Cau Giay park. The street is 675m long, 25m wide. Khuc Thua Du (reigned from 905-907) was later worshiped as Khuc Tien Chua. He was born in Hong Chau (Cuc Bo village, Kien Quoc commune, Ninh Giang district, Hai Duong province at present) in a dominant group for a few generations, citizens voted him as Tiet Do Su to govern Giao Chau. At that time, Duong Dynasty was depressed, could not hinder that event and also agreed to recognize him as Tinh Hai Tiet Do Su and additionally ordained him as Dong Binh Chuong Su. Khuc Thua Du passed away on July 23, 907. His son-Khuc Hao succeeded him. His name was given to the streets in Hai Phong City, Da Nang and a high school in Tan Huong Commune, Ninh Giang District, Hai Duong Province.

Tu Mo is named for the section from the junction of Mac Thai Tong intersection at plot C12 to intersection Pham Hung Street at Big C supermarket. The street is 900m long and 21.3m wide. Tu Mo’s real name is Ho Trong Hieu, born in 1900, residing on Hang Hom Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi City. At the age of 14, he won the first position at a preliminary French-Vietnamese competition. He started writing poetry at the age of 16. Since 1926, he began to have his poetry published in Vietnamese youth magazines. In 1932, he joined Tu Luc Van Doan. In 1957, he was elected Vice Chairman of Vietnam Association of Literature and Arts, Standing Member of Vietnam Writers’ Association. He made significant contribution to the development of poetry, especially in terms of satirical poetry for half a century of writing,. He was awarded Ho Chi Minh Prize on art and literature in the 02nd term in 2000. He passed away in 1976. Currently, there is a temple worshiping Tu Mo in Cau Giay District.  Nguyen Quoc Tri is named for the section from the intersection of Nguyen Chanh Street to the road adjacent to the land plot no. C2 – C4, Nam Trung Yen. The street is 1240m long and 17.5m wide. Nguyen Quoc Tri was born in 1921 in Do Luong district, Nghe An province. Before the August Revolution, he participated in activities against forcing citizens to work and was imprisoned by French colonialists. In 1944, he and his peers broke into prison and then volunteered for the pioneering self-defense team against Japan. After the August Revolution, he entered the regular army, participated in many battles in Vinh, Hue, Dong Ha … In 1954, he was the regimental commander of the Capital Regiment under the pioneering brigade to take over Hanoi and was honored to fly the National Flag at the celebration of the Capital Liberation. On August 16, 1967, during a visit to hometown-Phuong Ky village, he died in a bombard. He was named Hero of the People’s Armed Forces in 1952 and is one of the first 4 heroes of Vietnam People’s Army (along with: Martyr Cu Chinh Lan, La Van Cau, Nguyen Thi Chien).

That three celebrities’ name are given for three new streets is a great honor to leaders and citizens in Cau Giay particularly and generally to Hanoi Capital. This also affirms the governing responsibility of the Party, authority of all levels in managing and maintain traditional culture values in our life.

In the ceremony, People’s Committee of Cau Giay District requests Vietnamese Fatherland Front and political-social association, social organizations, relevant departments and agencies, leaders of Dich Vong , Trung Hoa and Yen Hoa wards (03 wards with newly named streets) to continue strengthening the public propaganda to people in terms of background, great merits of celebrities; paying attention and directing people to implement urban embellishment, environmental hygiene, care for increasingly tidy, clean, civilized streets which are deservedly given the name of celebrities in the country history and development.
