In addition to the effective implementation of the mass sports movement, of which the rate of people with regular exercises reached 34%, the percentage of families with regular exercises reached 23%…, over the years, Thuong Tin district has paid attention to the field of high-performance sports to promote the strengths of the district and gain many medals in the city and national competitions.

Along with the budget, Thuong Tin district promotes the socialization of facilities for sports activities

To effectively implement the high-performance sports movement, the district has focused on investing in facilities and effective training and promoting the effectiveness of sports clubs in the area. Currently, Thuong Tin district has quite synchronous facilities for sports activities. The whole district has 27 communal-level stadiums, 1 district-level stadium, 20 artificial turf football fields, 161 Cultural Houses in villages and hamlets… These meet the needs of physical training of all classes of people and serve the large activities such as sports festivals, competitions, sports exchanges… Besides, the district is very interested in the training of athletes. Every year, the district regularly maintains 3 gifted women’ football classes and 1 children’s soccer class. From 2011 to now, the district has sent many athletes in women’s football to join the city and national teams. Athletes actively practiced and won many achievements in competition.

To create a foundation for high-performance sports, the district has maintained the effective operation of 148 sports clubs (including 30 movement football clubs). Members of the clubs actively practice and participate in movement tournaments and major local sports events. From the movement tournaments, Thuong Tin district has discovered and selected many talented athletes to add to the teams for high-achievement sports. Many athletes have grown from the movement tournaments and won many medals in the city and national competitions.

In 10 years (2011 – 2020), athletes from the district’s teams have won 43 medals at the national level and 415 medals at the city level. Particularly in 2019, the district’s tradition in the competition continued to be confirmed with 65 medals of all kinds in city-level sports tournaments (including 23 Gold medals, 11 Silver medals, 31 Bronze medals). In 2020, in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic, the district’s high-performance sports also faced difficulties as many tournaments are postponed or canceled. The district has contributed 53 football players to the Hanoi team. 09 athletes who won Bronze Medals at the National Women’s Football Championship in 2020; 01 athlete won a Silver Medal at the National Athletics Championships; 08 athletes won 14 medals of all kinds at the National Youth Athletics Championships. The district also sent a delegation of athletes to participate in the City-level summer sports tournament, winning 19 medals of all kinds… In the first months of 2021, the COVID-19 epidemic continued to develop complicatedly. The district has strictly complied with the directives of superiors on COVID-19 prevention and control, so many activities have been postponed, thus affecting the overall plans including the 9th District Sports Festival 2021.

In the coming years, to improve the quality of high-performance sports movements, Thuong Tin district will continue to focus on discovering, selecting and training talented athletes; maintain organization of sports competitions from district to grassroots level; continue to foster and improve professional qualifications for the contingent of civil servants, coaches, guides and sports collaborators from the district to the grassroots; improve the quality and effectiveness of physical education and sports activities in schools, the armed forces, cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers in the locality…
