In his life and revolutionary career, Uncle Ho always paid special attention to the care and education of the youth with an aim of turning them into those with good qualities and expertise to continue to follow and participate in the struggle for national liberation and in the construction and defense of the motherland. With his teachings in mind, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union has always considered the training of revolutionary ideal, ethics, and cultural lifestyle for the youth as its central task, of which the promotion of the learning and following of Ho Chi Minh’s ideas, morals, and style is the core content with key significance.

Young people who follow Uncle Ho’s teachings in 2018 are praised by the Central Youth Union Committee

Practical tasks

Upon issuance of the Politburo’s Directive No. 05-CT/TW, the Central Youth Union Committee deployed and launched a series of political activities within the Union and the youth nationwide, with influence spread to each branch, team, member, and junior member belonging in different social classes and in different areas.

Over the past two years, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union has applied a number of creative and effective ideas which are suitable with the modern development trend and practical situations, delivering remarkable changes in raising awareness, training, cultivation, promotion, and following of Uncle Ho’s teachings within the youth.

All levels of the Youth Union have specified the learning and following of Ho Chi Minh’s ideas, morals, and style for each specific target group and organized training sessions on appropriate subjects, of which the “Basic contents of Ho Chi Minh’s ideas, morals, and style” has been taught regularly throughout the years. In the course of dissemination of the implementation of Directive 05-CT/TW, new methods of implementation that apply information technology have attracted the attention of Youth Union members, such as establishing special-theme pages on “Learning and following Uncle Ho’s teachings” on social networks, establishing “E-book library about President Ho Chi Minh”, organizing online contests about Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh’s thought, and famous works of Uncle Ho, organizing contests on Vietnamese history and culture, organizing “Good news every day, a beautiful story every week” campaign, and making communication products, taking advantage of social networking in promoting and approaching the youth.

In learning from and following Uncle Ho, Vietnamese youth continues to promote the spirit of commitment, volunteering, and creativity across the fields and actively participates in revolutionary movements launched by the Youth Union. Over the past two years, Youth Union members and young members have conducted more than 21,200 youth works and completed over 226,900 youth tasks at all levels. Through the young volunteer movement, more than 6 million turns of domestic and foreign union members and young people have deployed hundreds of programs and projects to build bridges, rural roads, youth villages, and youth islands, make flood shelters, build houses and schools for students in upland areas, set up youth farms, youth cooperatives, etc., contributing to socio-economic development, environmental protection, and settlement of difficulties of the community.

There should be more activeness

After two years of implementing the Politburo’s Directive No. 05, in addition to the results achieved, drawbacks have also been identified as some young people still show signs of negative behaviors and actions. Some Youth Union officers are not enthusiastic with the movement, some members are not exemplary, and some Youth Union units lack creativity and initiative in implementing the movement, resulting in programs with little appeal among young people. Self-criticism, self-reflection, and recognition of weaknesses are aimed at quickly overcoming drawbacks, improving the members, and enhancing the strengths of the Youth Union in the new time.

According to Mr. Le Quoc Phong, First Secretary of the Central Youth Union Committee, with the rapid development of science and technology and increasing influence of the 4.0 revolution on youth life, it is required that Youth Union officers continue to take advantage of modern media tools, social networks, newspaper system, publishing system, and reporter and propagandist system to further disseminate and continue to raise the awareness in officials, union members, and young people of the fundamental contents and great values of Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morals, and style.

In order to achieve the above-mentioned objectives, the Central Youth Union Committee asks Youth Union units at all levels to effectively implement the “Building the value of Vietnamese youth in the new era” campaign with an aim to contribute to the establishment of a young generation with a revolutionary ideal, strong political will, rich patriotism who are ethical, civilized, responsible, law-abiding, and peace-loving citizens. Each Youth Union member should also have the knowledge, health, ambition, and desire to develop his/herself, promote the spirit of creativity, entrepreneurship, and commitment, not be indifferent to the situation of the country, know the right and wrong, actively speak up to fight against false allegations and distortions, and fight with the bad and the negative in society. Youth Union at all levels should promptly praise and celebrate good examples and propose new and more effective solutions in the dissemination and promotion of good examples after commendation. It is also required to renew the form and contents of political training for Youth Union members and young people, to attach importance to education through action, and to use the patriotic emulation movement to gather young people and to promote the spirit of volunteering, creativity, and commitment among the youth in the implementation of political tasks of localities and units through the three revolutionary movements and three action plans accompanying the youth.

In the course of learning and following Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morals, and style, Youth Union officers at all levels should be determined to build the image of the Youth Union officer who is dedicated, responsible, exemplary, honest, and well informed of local units to make clear changes in the attitude, style, and quality of Youth Union members. All levels of Youth Union must attach great importance to the training of Youth Union staff and officers who are exemplary, brave, innovative, active, creative, who dare to think, dare to do and who do not show signs of recession in terms of politics, thought, morals, lifestyle or “self-evolving”, “self-transformation”. In order to effectively implement the policy of “1 + 2”, central and provincial Youth Union officers must annually work at least 2 months in local units. Regulations on the study of political theories and training of working style for Youth Union officers in accordance with Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morals, and style will also be issued.
