The movement of “Good people, Good deeds” in the Capital is growing in quality and quantity
Speaking at the opening and leading the workshop, Standing Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee Le Hong Son emphasized that, over the past 30 years, the movement of “Good people, Good deeds” in the capital has grown in both quality and quantity; spreading far and wide in all branches and levels at all times, creating a spirit of exciting emulation, arousing and promoting the patriotic tradition, the spirit of kindness, and noble deeds; contributing to preserving and cultivating the elegant, cultural, civilized and modern Hanoi people’s culture. The most obvious manifestation of the vitality of the movement of “Good people, Good deeds” is that recently, when the situation of the Covid-19 epidemic was complicated; Hanoi city has united, joined forces, and emulated with the substantive participation of the whole political system. In addition to the medical staff, officers and soldiers, the frontline force day and night fighted against the epidemic. There was also the active participation of volunteers, residential groups, residential areas, community Covid groups, businessmen, and enterprises. It can be said that in this war, there have been many valuable actions and deeds showing the spirit of solidarity, “loving people as if you love yourself”, “self for everyone” gathering the strength of the great solidarity bloc of the whole people, promoting the spirit of “Hanoi for the whole country, together with the whole country”.
Standing Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee said that for 30 years of implementing the movement “Good people, Good deeds”, there have been nearly 29,000 examples of “Good people, Good deeds” commended and rewarded by the city; more than 350,000 examples of “Good people, Good deeds” rewarded by departments, branches, unions, districts, towns, and units of the city. Most of them are workers, farmers, civil servants, officers, officials, soldiers of the armed forces and direct workers. Since 2010, the city has also praised and honored 119 examples of “Elite Citizens of the Capital”. They are beautiful flowers of the Capital. Every year, the city holds a solemn conference to honor “Good people, Good deeds” and “Elite Citizens of the Capital” on the occasion of the capital liberation day (October 10). The organization of this emulation movement has been researched, studied and applied by many provinces, cities, localities and units.

In order to evaluate the results and achievements achieved over 30 years of organizing the implementation of the movement “Good people, Good deeds”, analyzing and clarifying the position, role, practical meaning of the movement “Good people, Good deeds” in the city; drawing lessons from the practice of organizing emulation movements to propose tasks and solutions to improve the quality and effectiveness of emulation movements, in the coming time, the Emulation – Commendation Council of the City planned to organize the workshop “30 years of the movement of Good people, Good deeds in the capital”.
In order for the Workshop to have good results, Mr. Le Hong Son suggested that the delegates continue to focus on discussing and clarifying a number of key issues as follows: Clarify the role and meaning of the movement “Good people, Good deeds” in the current movement of building and developing the Capital as well as lessons learned from the practical implementation of the emulation movement “Good people, Good deeds”; Propose appropriate solutions to innovate and improve the quality and efficiency of the emulation movement in the coming time to meet the requirements and tasks of the city, enhance the propaganda, dissemination, and source of strength in all levels, branches, localities and people from the emulation movement with the goal of spreading more and more the good and the beautiful, repelling and limiting the evil and the bad; and contribute to building the capital more and more beautiful, civilized and modern.
At the Workshop, the discussions of leaders, former management leaders, scientists, journalists, businesses, typical advanced individuals, typical good people, good deeds, etc. have created a “picture” of the “flower forest” of good people and good deeds of the capital.
Propagation of various examples of “Good people, Good deeds” to readers in the Capital
Dr. Luu Minh Tri, former Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee, mentioned a series of good examples such as teachers, civil servants, village heads, simple farmers or movement of “Every day, each officer and soldier of the Metropolitan Police does at least one good deed for the sake of peace, for the people’s happiness.” According to Dr. Luu Minh Tri, the emulation movement of good people and good deeds is a manifestation of the spirit of patriotic emulation, the spirit of building the Capital and showing the love for Hanoi.
Journalist Ho Quang Loi, former head of the Propaganda Department of the City Party Committee, analyzed the effective promotion of the association of the movement “Good people, Good deeds” with building elegant and civilized Hanoians. According to journalist Ho Quang Loi, 30 years ago, two political documentaries “Hà Nội trong mắt ai” (Hanoi in people’s eyes) and “Chuyện tử tế” (The Stories of Kindness) by director Tran Van Thuy were premiered and deeply moved the minds of Hanoians. More than three decades have passed, now, “The Stories of Kindness” is still hot, not only in Hanoi. Kind people, kind things are not lacking around us, but unkind things, unkind people seem to be not less. Its way of expression is also spread by fierce and vicious battles on social networks.

Journalist Ho Quang Loi shared that: “A city, no matter how magnificent, is only really worth living when people know and want to live decently. Humanity and kindness must be the fire of warmth and light in the life of every person, family and society as a whole. The attitude to deal with the pain and calamity of others is a natural human response, a moral measure, and the most rigorous test of social morality.
When being asked how the cultural values of the ancient land, the character, the beat, the elegance of the Hanoians continue to be maintained and transformed into the most common actions and lifestyles if exemplary for the whole country, Journalist Ho Quang Loi said that this requires every Hanoian to always be deeply aware of the honor and responsibility of being a “citizen of the capital”. Therefore, it is necessary that more and more good people appear every day. The renaissance of Hanoi people’s culture needs a sense of self-discipline.
In order to increase the attraction and effectiveness of the book genre “Beautiful flowers”, Poet Bang Viet proposed, every 5 years, we should select the best articles about special role models who have much social influence and the highest social efficiency, to make a collection then distribute it widely and sell it to the public, rather than let it remain in the current “non-selling book” category because it’s a waste.

Poet Bang Viet said that it is necessary to change the title of the book, not to be “Good people, Good deeds” that everyone has been familiar with. Such name is correct and reasonable, but it is not attractive to readers in the book market. So, it should be given a different name, creating more impression and attention, something like “The enthusiastic hearts who beautify the Capital”, or “Who ever dared to rise from ordinary circumstances?” or simpler name such as “Memorable faces of Hanoians in the past five years” …. Poet Bang Viet believes that, if selected and edited well, with timely propaganda and promotion, the above “Selected Good People, Good deeds” book, along with new and more attractive titles, will hit the curiosity of readers, especially young readers, so that it can be more effective, reach a larger number of readers, especially young readers, thereby, having broader and deeper social effects.
At the workshop, departments also proposed many solutions to build and propagate diversely on social networks, spreading the good and advanced examples of patriotic and responsible people who have responsibility and dedication to the capital; people who are elegant, civilized, honest, self-respecting, affectionate, intellectual, dynamic, creative, and people who are representing a new working style…
Participants of the workshop had listened to valuable experiences in the movement “Good people, Good deeds” in the Capital’s armed forces; The correct comments will contribute significantly to the movement of “Good people, Good deeds” and the capital would continue to be a bright spot, multiplying thousands of “beautiful flowers” for the beloved capital.
Improve the quality of the emulation movement to meet the requirements and tasks of the City
Speaking at the Workshop, Deputy Head of the Central Economic Investment Department Phan Van Hung assessed that the movement of “Good people, Good deeds” of the capital has become the daily “culture” of the people of the capital, the unique identity of the land of thousands of years of civilization, has created motivation and confidence in the people with hundreds, thousands of flowers good people and good deeds. They are simple examples, rich in compassion and imbued with humanity, they are in different fields, different professions and of different ages. They may be doctors, teachers, policemen, soldiers, workers, farmers, civil defense, town leaders, youth, and students… Especially, recently, when the situation the Covid-19 epidemic has developed complicatedly, affecting all areas of people’s work and life, a series of good examples and models related to epidemic prevention and support have appeared, creating spillover effects in the community and society. These are really beautiful flowers of the capital with profound social and humanistic meanings, contributing to better brightening the qualities of civilized and elegant Hanoians.
Inheriting and continuing to write a new history of the emulation movement of “Good people, Good deeds” in the period of integration and development, in order to continue to promote, innovate and improve the quality of the emulation movement in the coming time, Deputy Head of the Central Economic Investment Department Phan Van Hung suggested that Hanoi should continue to accelerate the implementation of Directive No. 34-CT/TW of the Party Politburo (term XI) on innovation in emulation and commendation. The responsibility of Party committees and authorities at all levels in leading and directing the organization of emulation movements “Good people, good deeds” should be enhanced. The content, form, and method of organization should be regularly renewed to link the emulation movement of “Good people, Good deeds” with the movement of “Study and follow Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morality and style” and patriotic emulation movement launched by the Central Government and the City.
In addition, it is necessary to promote the role of leaders of all levels, branches and media agencies in proactively detecting examples of “good people, good deeds”, especially new factors, to encourage, set an example and replicate in the whole society, creating a driving force for development and spread widely in each unit and establishment. The example of advanced examples must be persuasive and powerful as taught by President Ho Chi Minh: “A vital example is worth more than a hundred propaganda speeches”. The work must have innovating methods, diversifying forms of propaganda, must praise and honor the example of “Good people, good deeds”. Forms and methods of propagating good people and good deeds should be timely, flexible and creative.
The Deputy Head of the Central Economic Investment Department also requested that, through lessons learned and from the practical implementation of the Emulation Movement, it is necessary to learn from experience, innovate, and improve the quality and effectiveness of the Emulation Movement in the coming time to meet the requirements and tasks of the City, and at the same time, make the emulation movement of “good people, good deeds” of Hanoi City developed and replicated into a common movement of all provinces and cities throughout the country to spread more and more good and beauty, “take the beauty, eliminate the bad”, contributing to building the country more and more rich and beautiful.
Speaking at the conclusion of the Workshop, Chairman of the Vietnamese Fatherland Front Committee in Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Lan Huong, sincerely thanked the comments of the Central Committee for Emulation and Commendation as well as the comments of the delegates at the Workshop. Comrade Nguyen Lan Huong assigned the City Emulation – Commendation Committee to absorb and advise the City to direct all levels and branches to continue implementing the movement of “Good people, good deeds” according to a number of specific contents and solutions.
In particular, it is necessary to raise the awareness and responsibility of the role of party committees and authorities at all levels in leading and directing the organization of the emulation movement in general and the movement “Good people, good deeds” in particular. The content, form and method of organizing emulation movements must be regularly renewed in a practical, focused, effective, grass-roots direction, closely following the assigned political tasks of each locality and unit. The City needs to continue linking the emulation movement of “Good people, Good deeds” with the movement of “Study and follow Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morality and style” and patriotic emulation movement launched by the Central Government and the City.
The propaganda, fostering, replication and study of good examples, good people and good deeds on the information and communication system at all levels should be stepped up; increasing the reporting time on good people, good deeds, and advanced examples; regularly check and urge the propaganda to be carried out regularly and continuously. In addition, effectiveness of the work of detecting and recommending typical advanced, good people and good deeds from the City to the grassroots need to be improved in order to promote the work of detecting, proposing and rewarding according to authority and introducing to the City typical advanced samples, good people, good deeds; focus on proposing and rewarding employees such as workers, farmers, cadres, civil servants, public employees and direct workers in all fields.
The City need to timely take appropriate forms to praise and reward collectives and individuals with achievements in patriotic emulation movements and the movement of “Good people, good deeds” in order to spread widely in the community and in the people good jobs, beautiful actions, effective and creative solutions and models. Thereby, the strength of both the political system and the people of the capital and the whole country could be mobilized to successfully carry out the tasks of socio-economic development, security, and defense in the following years./.
