Taking place from August 31 to September 9 in Ninh Binh province, the National Youth Chess Championship 2018 officially closed with the first position belonging to Ho Chi Minh City team, then Hanoi City team with seven gold medals.

Attending this year’s event, there are 260 outstanding players from 24 provinces, cities and clubs in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang city, Dong Nai province, Hai Phong city, Military club, Thai Nguyen province, Ben Tre province, Lam Dong province, Bac Giang province, Binh Dinh province, Ninh Binh province, Bac Ninh, Dong Thap province, Long An province, Thanh Hoa province, Nghe An province, Quang Ninh province, Thua Thien Hue province, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, Hoa Phuong Do Club, VietChess Club, Talent Chess Club …

The players competed in many individual categories for men and women of standard chess and Blitz chess for the age of: U6, U7, U9, U11, U13, U15, U17, U20. The players play in a 7-game Swiss format if there are fewer than 25 players to participate or 9 games (more than 26 players) and in round in case of less than 10 players.

High ranking young players in the national tournament, young players with International medals in the year, national chess veteran and reserve chess veteran played in the standard chess and Blitz chess.

After 10 days of fierce competition, Ho Chi Minh City team won 12 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 9 bronze medals, led the whole delegation, then Hanoi city team with 7 gold medals, 4 silver medals, 5 bronze medals, the third was Bac Giang team with 3 gold medals, 1 bronze medal, the host Ninh Binh was ranked 4th with 2 gold medals, 3 silver medals, 1 bronze medal…
The National Youth Chess Championship 2018 was jointly organized by the Vietnam Chess Federation and the Department of Culture and Sports of Ninh Binh Province. This is a tournament in the official system of the Vietnam Chess Federation to inspect and evaluate the training, coaching and ranking of the chess players of the local, sectors and at the same time, to discover sports talents to select, train, focus, invest and add to the national young chess teams to participate in regional and international competitions.
