  1. Hanoi successfully organized the 8th National Sports Festival 2018

Taking place from November 15 to December 10, the Eighth National Sports Festival of 2018 ended with the first position of the whole delegation belonging to the Hanoi Sports Delegation.

The competition program of the 8th festival featured 36 sports in 743 events. The Hanoi delegation won the first place of the whole team with the overwhelming number of medals including 176 gold medals, 149 silver medals, 139 bronze medals, more than the second ranked team – Ho Chi Minh City – 58 gold medals.

Notably, in many sports, Hanoi did not only lead the whole team but also exceeded the set targets, such as: wushu (21 gold medals, 11 silver medals, 3 bronze medals); wrestling (14 gold medals, 3 silver medals, 6 bronze medals); weightlifting (14 gold medals, 7 silver medals, 5 bronze medals); athletics (9 gold medals, 10 silver medals, 7 bronze medals); rowing boat racing (9 gold medals, 2 bronze medals); springboard (7 gold medals, 6 silver medals, 1 bronze medal)…

Basically, the Eighth National Games Festival was successfully held, most of the competitions went smoothly and the organization of the festival was considered thoughtful and economical. By taking full advantage of the existing material facilities of Hanoi capital, the sports industry and the state budget could save a significant amount of money instead of building new facilities for competition. In addition, this is also a festival that “bad reputation” about cheating in competition, the situation of “buying and selling” medals and pursuing achievements at all costs just to show are minimized. The festival organized by Hanoi has done what the Organizing Committee stated “This is the cleanest Festival in terms of expertise”.

  1. Hanoi – Vietnam became the 22nd member of the World Formula 1 Racing and was selected to host the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) and the 11th ASEAN Para Games (Para Games 11) in 2021.

November 7, 2018 afternoon marks an international event when Hanoi officially announces organizing Formula One Race in April 2020. This will be the street race at My Dinh – one of the central areas of Hanoi capital. The racetrack structure was designed by Tilke, the world’s leading designer for race tracks, in collaboration with the F1 Motorsports Section along with the strict direction of the Hanoi city government and the support of the host, aiming to build an exciting race for both racers and fans.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Chung, Chairman of Hanoi’s People’s Committee, is proud to bring the Formula 1 Vietnamese Grand Prix to Vietnam. It would be an opportunity to showcase the city of Hanoi – Vietnam to the world with its special combination of ancient and modern beauty. This is also a testament to Vietnam’s ability, one of the fastest growing economies in the world, in organizing events on a global scale and attracting tourists to the country. It opens up investment opportunities in Vietnam and gives Vietnamese people the opportunity to admire the most exciting races in the F1 racing.

Besides, Prime Minister has agreed to let Hanoi host the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) and the 11th ASEAN Para Games (Para Games 11) in 2021- biannual multisport event involving best disabled athletes from the current 11 Southeast Asia countries. The hosting of two major international sporting events contributes to introducing and promoting the image of the capital in particular and the country in general; to affirming the capacity and qualifications and creating favorable conditions for Hanoi – Vietnam to continue hosting international political, diplomatic, cultural, sports and tourist events in the future.

  1. Athlete Bui Thi Thu Thao won a gold medal at ASIAD

At ASIAD 18, Hanoi athlete Bui Thi Thu Thao has excellently brought the gold medal with the achievement of 6m55. This is also the first gold medal won by Vietnamese track and field athletes in the history of the ASIAD, a very proud achievement.

Not only the first gold medal for Vietnamese athletics in an Asian Games, Bui Thi Thu Thao’s long jump gold medal is also the only gold medal for Southeast Asian athletes at this Asian Games.
This historic gold medal helped Bui Thi Thu Thao to win the best sports award in the selection of typical athletes 2018 with 700 points. This is a reward worthy of the efforts and successes that Bui Thu Thao won in 2018.

ASIAD 18 is also associated with the success of the Capital Sports, most notably the number of Hanoi athletes which accounts for 30% of the National Team participating in the 2018 Asian Games and wins 16 medals (01 gold medal, 6 silver medals, 9 bronze medals) equivalent to 41.2% of the total 38 medals of the whole team.

  1. The Open Hanoi Dragon Boat Racing Festival 2018

The event drew 27 teams from districts of Hanoi and other provinces with more than 400 rowers competing in 2 categories: standard dragon boat and traditional dragon boat. Each category featuring men’s, women’s and mixed doubles on the 600-metre event has engendered a very good social effect. The Dragon Boat Racing Festival attracted many people to follow and cheer. The area arround the lake was crowded with spectators.

This is the first time Hanoi has held such an event. The organization of the Dragon Boat Racing Festival is one of the activities to concretize the policy of turning the West Lake into a key tourism area. If the pilot program is successful, Hanoi will maintain and be able to invite Southeast Asian teams to attend this event.

In the 2018 V-league, Hanoi FC won the championship early 5 rounds. This is a new record of Vietnamese football, the previous record set by Becamex Binh Duong in 2007 when they were crowned 4 rounds early.

Moreover, the army under coach Chu Dinh Nghiem is also the football club with the most goals (72 goals); the football club with the most wins (20 matches); the football club with the least losses (2 matches); the football club with the longest unbeaten run and the football club with the most goal-scorers…

  1. The first international marathon connecting three sacred heritages of Ha Noi: Hoan Kiem Lake – Hong Ha – West Lake

“Hanoi International Heritage Marathon 2018” (HIHM 2018) took place on October 21, 2018 with the participation of more than 2,000 professional and semi-professional athletes from 50 countries and territories. This is the first international marathon connecting 3 heritage sites: Hoan Kiem Lake, Hong Ha and West Lake, through the streets to create a unique and original road ever.
Starting from Ly Thai To Flower Garden, the athletes have gone through the legendary old streets, passing through the most beautiful roads of Hanoi Capital, along with sites and architectural works associated with history of formation and development of the heritage city, such as Hoan Kiem Lake, West Lake, Long Bien bridge. The marathon includes 42km, 21km, 10km and 5km distances. In the world, many big, long-running tournaments held annually in the capital of the countries have become a real festival for those who love this sport such as NewYork Marathon, London Marathon, Paris Marathon, Copenhagen Marathon …

  1. Olympic running day for Public Health has reached a record of attendance

“Olympic running day – for Public Health” and the launching ceremony of the 45th Open Hanoimoi Newspaper Run for Peace 2018 held by People’s Committee of Nam Tu Liem District for the first time. Participating in the running day, there were 35 units including 10 wards, 8 agencies, enterprises – armed forces, 12 junior high schools, 5 high schools – vocational schools – colleges – universities with 5,100 people in Nam Tu Liem district.
In addition to 5,100 people in Nam Tu Liem district, nearly 3,000 people from the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports (including many athletes, famous actors), employees of some businesses also participated in the event, contributing to setting a record of attendance in the Olympic Running Day – for Public Health and the launching ceremony of the 45th Open Hanoimoi Newspaper Run for Peace in 2018.

  1. Hanoimoi Newspaper Run 2018 recorded the largest number of participants

At the 45th time, the Open Hanoimoi Newspaper Run for Peace 2018 was rated the most successful ever in terms of attendees, when attracting 397,021 people, exceeding the assigned target of 104,121 people, and set the record of the tournament with largest number of participants in Vietnam.
The 2018 season marks many significant new points. Firstly, the tournament takes place on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of administrative boundary adjustment of the Capital with outstanding developments. Secondly, the tournament is one of the key activities towards the National Gymnastics and Sports Festival 2018 hosted by Hanoi. Thirdly, this year marks the milestone of the 45-year-old tournament with all professional parameters higher than in previous years. All shows an improvement in the quality, scale and spread of the tournament.

  1. Hanoi U21 won the U21 Championship for the fourth time

Hanoi U21 continues to be crowned at the National U21 Championship 2018 sponsored by Thanh Nien (Young People) Newspaper. By joining this tournament, U21 Hanoi has won the most achievements.

Hanoi participated in the tournament for the first time in 2013 and won the championship. In the past 6 years of the National U21 Championship, the Hanoi team has reached the finals 5 times and won the championship 4 times.

Besides, Hanoi U21 also received some other individual awards such as “Best Footballer” – Nguyen Thanh Chung, “Best Goalkeeper” – Do Sy Huy …
