The activity is to celebrate the 46th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country on April 30 and the International Labor Day on May 1, the 131st birthday of President Ho Chi Minh, and the 60th anniversary of the founding of Hoan Kiem district.

Accordingly, between April 23 and May 31, 2021, the Management Board of Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter will organize a series of cultural activities with the theme “The Story of Pottery” with many interesting activities introducing about traditional craft villages of Hanoi and other provinces in the country.

Typical is the display and introduction of traditional pottery at Kim Ngan communal house located at No. 42 & 44 Hang Bac, Hang Bac ward, Hoan Kiem district. The exhibition introduces to the public some typical ceramic products of Bat Trang pottery village (Hanoi), Phu Lang pottery village (Bac Ninh), and Chi pottery workshop (Hanoi).

Speaking at the opening of the series of activities, Ms. Tran Thi Thuy Lan – Deputy Head of the Management Board of Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter affirmed that Thang Long – Hanoi is a convergence of hundreds of professions, with the most famous streets of the period. And Hoan Kiem district – Hanoi’s old quarter is the area of 36 old streets, where many craft streets are concentrated as well as temples of many craft ancestors that still exist today. This is typical of Hanoi Old Quarter. Among many traditional professions, Pottery has a history of development for thousands of years. Pottery products of craft villages have a very important role to serve mainly in the daily life of the people and express the quintessence and cultural identity of the Vietnamese nation.

 Ms. Tran Thi Thuy Lan – Deputy Head of the Management Board of Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter delivered the opening speech.

 “Through the display and introduction of some typical ceramic products of Bat Trang (Hanoi), Phu Lang (Bac Ninh) and Chi pottery villages, the Management Board of Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter wishes to introduced to honor the traditional pottery with a variety of ceramic traditional and modern products; thereby expressing the creative flow on the products made by the talented and skillful hands of the artisans”, – Ms. Tran Thuy Lan added.

Along with the exhibition and introduction of pottery, at the Heritage Information Center of Hanoi’s Old Quarter – located at No. 28, Hang Buom, Hang Buom ward, Hoan Kiem district, there were also activities to display and introduce Vinh Ba weaving, Phu Yen – a beautiful heritage, an attractive tourist destination of Phu Yen province, also introduce and promote tourism products between Phu Yen province and Hanoi city.

Also in the series of cultural activities to celebrate major holidays, at Dong Lac communal house – located at No. 38,  Hang Dao, Hang Dao ward, Hoan Kiem district, there is also an activity to introduce traditional lacquer products with the theme: “The quintessence of Vietnamese lacquer”. Besides, visitors will experience “eggshell decoration” by themselves – one of the stages in lacquer manufacturing.

A series of activities are organized to preserve traditional vocational values with the connection between craft streets and craft villages, to promote tourism development, promote the image of Hanoi’s Old Quarter in particular and Hanoi capital in general; also strengthening cooperation and exchange between localities, organizations and individuals in the conservation and promotion of intangible cultural heritage values.
