Craftsman demonstrates knitting at Kim Ngan communal house

 In the space of Kim Ngan communal house, rattan and bamboo products have been arranged and installed in harmony with its architectural and landscaping settings.  Rolls of thinly split rattan, lanterns, pictures, flower vases, desks and chairs, decorating pads,.. on display have created close and eye-catching feelings. Additionally, Hanoians and especially tourists visitting the site will be able to interact with craftsman Nguyen Van Trung, learning of how the process of trade has been run and its secrets kept; at the same time, to watch by their own eyes him demonstrate the bamboo and rattan knitting techniques.

 Sharing his traditional crafts, craftsman Nguyen Van Trung explained: Participating in the traditional crafts cultural activities, the craftsmen will have many opportunities to introduce to friends both international and domestic of the bamboo and rattan knitting business. By that way, Phu Vinh people will be more aware of preservation and development of the traditional crafts, so as to deserve the reputation of “the land of hundred trades”.

Phu Vinh bamboo and rattan craft village is one of the most well-known villages in Ha Noi aged through a roughly 400 year history. Phu Vinh was officially recognized as a traditional crafts village in 2002. With renovations and skilful hands, Phu Vinh craftsmen have created hundreds of diverse ways of knitting i.e fish bone knitting, flower design knitting combined with colours, embossed patterns made on highly artistic and sophisticated product samples. The bamboo and rattan products ranging from decorating objects like disk, tray, flower vase, curtain, lamp-shade to table, chair, portrait, scenery picture, horizontal lacquered board engraved with Chinese characters, inscribed parallel sentences on a pair of wood panels,… have been consumed widely within and without.
