The 6th Hanoi International Film Festival: There will be a film about Hanoi awarded

With the slogan “Cinema – Humanity, Adaptation and Development”, the 6th Hanoi International Film Festival (6th HANIFF) honors cinematographic works with high artistic value and rich humanity, and outstanding and unique creative imprints, discovers and honors new talents of cinema, introduces unique works of cinema in the world, and creates opportunities to expand the Vietnamese film market. The film festival aims to attract the attention of the audience of Hanoi capital and international delegates, contributing to promoting the image of a beautiful, hospitable, and richly traditional Vietnam and Hanoi.

From more than 300 entries, the festival has selected 123 films from more than 50 countries and territories, such as: UK, USA, Finland, Sweden, Italy, Russia, Poland, China, Turkey, Japan, Taiwan (China), Hungary, Israel, Korea, Australia, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, Canada, Iran, etc. and ASEAN member countries, including 11 feature-length films, 20 feature-short films, 7 films in the program “Korea Cinema Spotlight”, 63 films in the “World Cinema Panorama Program” (Panorama); 22 contemporary Vietnamese films.

At the press conference held on the afternoon of October 20, the organizers said that 01 Vietnamese feature-length film “Hoa nhài (Jasmine)” – a new film of director Dang Nhat Minh produced in 2022 by Cinema Co., Ltd and Khanh An Media and Photo Company. “Hoa Nhai” was inspired by the folk song: “If it is not fragrant, it is also jasmine / Even if it is not elegant, it is also the Trang An people”. The film was “the slices from the life of Hanoians with simple and sophisticated cinematic language that sings the song deep in the elegant, benevolent and humane Hanoian souls. This film will be played in the Opening Ceremony of the Film Festival.

Besides, Vietnam Cinema has 10 feature-short films, including 01 feature-short story film; 5 cartoons and 4 documentaries.

Regarding the organization, Ms. Pham Thi My Hoa – Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and Deputy Head of the Film Festival Organization Committee said: The Hanoi People’s Committee assigned the Departments to ensure all aspects of the festival, such as security and order, traffic, disease prevention, food safety and hygiene, etc. Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism assigned  Hanoi Exhibition Information Center to be in charge of the visual propaganda for the festival. Department of Tourism was in charge of serving visitors, and exchanging with artists at the Hanoi Cheo Theatre. A special feature was that this year, the Hanoi People’s Committee would award the best director or film on the subject of Hanoi. “This award shows the interest of Hanoi’s leaders in domestic cinema, and this is also a very new point compared to previous film festivals,” emphasized Ms. Pham Thi My Hoa.

The 6th Hanoi International Film Festival also has many side activities such as: The exhibition “The filming settings are the monuments and cultural heritages of Hanoi” by the Film Institute, introducing more than 200 images in the films of Vietnamese cinema filmed in Hanoi; Workshop “Korea Cinema Highlights”, “Cinema – Connecting and spreading cultural values”; Film project market, outdoor movie shows and interactions with movie stars, etc.

Opening, Closing, and Awarding Ceremonies will be held at Hanoi Friendship Cultural Palace, No. 91 Tran Hung Dao, Hanoi; The opening ceremony will be televised live at 8 pm on November 8 on Hanoi Radio and Television Station (HTV1); Closing Ceremony- Awarding ceremony will be televised live on Vietnam Television (VTV2).

Films participating in the festival will be screened for free at the National Cinema Center 87 Lang Ha; CGV Vincom Center, 54 Nguyen Chi Thanh; BHD Star Cinema, 8th floor Vincom Pham Ngoc Thach.

The 6th Hanoi International Film Festival is held in the context that Vietnam cinema and other art sectors are recovering and focusing on development after more than 2 years of being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Film Festival is not only a cultural film event, but also an activity that contributes to the development of tourism and services, promotes the beautiful and hospitable Vietnam through the image of Hanoi capital which has thousands of years of civilization and peace, designated by UNESCO as a Creative City.
