  1. Vietnam sports with many historic milestones in 30th SEA Games

With 288 medals of all kinds, including 98 gold medals, 85 silver medals and 105 bronze medals, the Vietnamese sports team came second at the 30th SEA Games. This is a successful Games because we surpassed Thailand on the final table, surpassing them in many Olympic sports, including athletics, swimming, football, wrestling, etc. In which, in athletics, the Vietnamese athletes won up to 16 gold medals, far beyond the main opponent in the region is Thailand. Along with that, 30th SEA Games also marked a new milestone when Vietnam officially received the hosting flag to organize the 31st SEA Games in 2021. This is the second time after 2003, our country is the host of the largest Games in the region.

  1. Great success of Vietnamese football

In 2019, Vietnamese football continues to achieve success at both the national team and club level. After 60 years of waiting, the Vietnamese men’s football has just reached the gold medal of 30th SEA Games. In addition, at the Asian Cup 2019, the Vietnamese team reached the quarter-finals for the first time (round of 8 teams). Also, the U23, U19 and Futsal teams have qualified for the Asian finals 2020. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese women’s football team also achieved great success, winning two championships, including the Southeast Asian Women’s Football Championship 2019 and Gold Medal in 30th SEA Games.

  1. Hanoi Football Club won the domestic brace and advanced in the AFC Cup 2019                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  2019 is a great year for Hanoi FC when the club successfully defended the V. League championship before two rounds. Besides, Hanoi FC also won the National Cup and won the National Super Cup.

In 2019, Hanoi FC also received titles from the young generation, which is the championship of the National U19 Championship, the champion of the U21 National Championship. In the continental arena, Hanoi FC is also the first club in Vietnam and the whole of Southeast Asia to reach the AFC Cup Inter-regional finals. These achievements not only bring pride to the Capital football but also glory for Vietnamese football.

  1. Athletics continues to assert its position

At the 30th SEA Games, with 16 gold medals, Vietnamese athletics continued to lead the region. The most praiseworthy thing is that despite competing with Thailand and the host Philippines and other countries using naturalized athletes, the Vietnamese athletics still won impressive achievements and successfully defended the “championship” from SEA Games 29.

Especially, at the 30th SEA Games, Vietnamese athletics recognized the outstanding efforts of the athletes when someone won just 1% more than the opponent or had the athlete only practised for 2 months but won the highest achievement. It was the athlete Pham Thi Thu Trang (Hanoi), who first attended the SEA Games, and in the “reserve squad” but surpassed both Thanh Phuc and many other opponents and won the Gold Medal in Walking Content of 10,000 m.

  1. Basketball, tennis, table tennis scores points

At the 30th SEA Games, although the Vietnamese basketball team only won the Bronze Medal, this is a historic medal. Before that, Vietnam Sports had never won a medal in the regional arena. Although not yet ranked higher, but this is a strong start of Vietnamese basketball in the process of catching up basketball of Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand who always “dominate” in Southeast Asia.

30th SEA Games, Vietnamese tennis also made its mark. In the finals of the 30th SEA Games men’s single tennis are Vietnamese. In the end, Ly Hoang Nam won the gold medal. This is the first time Vietnamese tennis has won the two highest positions at SEA Games.

In addition, in table tennis, the couple Nguyen Anh Tu and Doan Ba Tuan Anh excelled over the pair of athletes from Singapore with the score of 3-1 to take the first gold medal in 10 years in the men’s couple table tennis.

The results achieved in 2019, especially the impressive achievement at 30th SEA Games, represent the most effective preparation for major sporting events in 2020, of which, most notably the Tokyo Olympics and then the 31st SEA Games, etc. taking place in Hanoi.

In late 2019, Vietnam’s sports won quite impressive results with 587 gold medals, 428 silver medals, 468 bronze medals at international tournaments, including 101 gold medals, 60 silver medals, 48 bronze medals in the world; 120 gold medals, 105 silver medals, 108 bronze medals in Asian; 354 Gold medals, 258 Silver medals, 300 Bronze medals in Southeast Asia.
