From April 21 to May 2, 2021, at the Bac Kan Provincial Sports Stadium, the General Department of Physical Training and Sports (under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) coordinated with the Bac Kan Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism held the opening ceremony of the 15th National Stick Pushing Championship and the 9th National Tug of War Championship in 2021, celebrating the 46th anniversary of the Reunification Day of the country (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2021) and celebrating the election of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the term 2021 – 2026. Attending the tournament were 500 athletes from 10 delegations participating in the stick pushing championship and 13 delegations participating in the 9th national tug of war championship, including the following provinces and cities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Bac Giang, Son La, Yen Bai, Lai Chau, Nghe An , Lao Cai, Cao Bang, Vinh Phuc, Gia Lai, Binh Phuoc, Bac Kan. These are two tournaments belonging to the national mass sports competition system, bringing together typical and outstanding athletes of the movement of practicing stick pushing and tug of war throughout the country. Athletes participating in the competition competed in 14 individual weight classes for men, 12 individual weight classes for women in the stick pushing content and 27 weight classes for men’s team, women’s team, men’s and women’s team combined in the tug of war content. At the end of the matches, the Organizing Committee of the 9th National Tug of War Championship in 2021 awarded medals in the weight categories: 550kg combined, 360kg women’s, 300kg men’s, 510kg combined, 400kg men’s and 330kg combined. Dong Anh district athletes’ delegation representing Hanoi includes 14 athletes who are high school students who participated in the competition and won 1 Gold, 2 Silver, and 4 Bronze medals.

Commendation to the athletes of the tug of war team

Immediately after the team returned to the tournament, on May 3, 2021, the Center for Culture, Sports and Information of Dong Anh district gave an immediate award to the national tug of war team. At the commendation ceremony, leaders of the Center for Culture, Sports and Information of Dong Anh district recognized, praised and presented gifts to athletes who had made great efforts during their participation in the tournament held in Bac Kan province recently and hope that in the coming time, these young athletes will continue to practice more to contribute to the sport of the home district.
