In the days of complicated developments in the COVID-19 pandemic in Hanoi, besides the efforts of authorities at all levels, the consensus and self-discipline of the people in implementing regulations on pandemic prevention and control, many noble deeds and actions have appeared in the city, showing the elegant and friendly traditions of the Capital people. The model of “Doan Ket Kitchen” by the Women’s Union (WU) in Trung Mau commune, Gia Lam district, is an example.

… and brought them to the key points to give to the frontline forces fighting the pandemic.
Hanoi is experiencing the 2nd day of social distancing according to Directive 16 by the Prime Minister. From July 24, 2021 to the present, Trung Mau commune has seriously implemented the regulations on pandemic prevention and control as recommended by the health sector and the direction of all levels. In the commune, 20 fixed and flexible points have been established in villages and hamlets to control people entering and leaving, limiting the spread of disease in the community. The forces on duty at the points include the Police, the Army, the Health, the Militia, women, the farmers, the youth union members, etc. Regardless of the difficulties and hardships, the forces were divided into four shifts per day; each shift has 3-5 people/point, to respond day and night.
Understanding the hardships of frontline forces contributing to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, staff and members of the Women’s Union of Trung Mau Commune have implemented the model of “Doan Ket Kitchen” and organized to cook 02 meals a day to give to the frontline forces who are on duty at the points with the desire to bring them meals of cozy atmosphere of the family, full of nutrition, and food hygiene and safety.
In order to have funds to implement the “Doan Ket Kitchen” model, the Commune Women’s Union mobilized cadres, women’s members and the people to support VND 36.3 million, along with essential foods: rice, meat, fish, bones, and vegetables. The members of the kitchen are officers, women members, and teachers of schools who are on social distancing. On average, each meal, “Doan Ket Kitchen” cooks more than 30 servings, carefully packed and directly delivered to each disease control checkpoint in the commune. On the days of organizing COVID-19vaccination in the commune, “Doan Ket Kitchen” cooks more than 50 portions per meal to serve the forces on duty at the checkpoints and the medical staff on duty.
To ensure fresh and delicious meals, ensure food safety and hygiene, as well as adequate nutrition, is the efforts of a large number of commune officials and women’s members. These women have assigned each other to go to the market, prepare food, cook, share rice, and bring rice to donate at key points… as thoughtful and careful as for their own relatives. All stages of meal preparation have strictly complied with regulations of food processing as well as regulations on prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic. No matter how hot it is, whether it’s raining or stormy… the meals are always delivered to the closing points on time.
The model “Doan Ket Kitchen” represents the noble spirit of the Women’s Union of Trung Mau Commune, which is the sharing, encouragement, gratitude, motivation, faith and strength for the frontline forces fighting the pandemic in Trung Mau. Solidarity is a precious tradition of our nation. Solidarity is the strength that brings success in the fight against COVID-19 in Trung Mau commune, Gia Lam district and the whole city of Hanoi.
