I don’t see many places where there are spectators cheering on sports like in Vietnam.” Meanwhile, the leader of Singapore’s wushu team – Mr. Jia Hong Cheng – said that the cheerful spirit of the audience is a very effective source of support for Vietnam in hosting the 31st SEA Games.
At the gymnasium in Bac Tu Liem district (Hanoi), the audience had also occupied every sit in the hall to cheer for the pencak silat fighters to compete. A member of the Malaysian pencak silat team shared that she was surprised because she did not expect such a crowded audience to watch this type of sport at the 31st SEA Games. A representative of the Malaysian pencak silat team said: “The Organizing Committee has arranged very enthusiastic volunteers for us. We have been guided very carefully with any kind of questions.”
Meanwhile at the indoor Palace of Athletics in Hanoi, fencers of the teams said that they were very satisfied with the facilities, the lighting is up to standard, and the competition place has high ceilings and is well ventilated. Female fencer Esteban of the Philippines team said that the facilities for the fencing event in Vietnam this time are no less than those of the Asian tournament.
Nandhira Mauiskha – Indonesian wushu athlete, who returned to the SEA Games after 7 years of absence since the last time was 2015 in Singapore, had said: “I really like Vietnam. Your facilities, preparation and execution for SEA Games 31 are great. I had had an injury, and have just returned to the SEA Games to compete and was surprised by the thoughtful organization from the host Vietnam.”
Kurash had already ended at Hoai Duc Gymnasium (Hanoi), but Thai female athlete Saowalak Homklin confessed that she enjoyed the enthusiastic cheers of young students in the stands here. “I find that if young people watch sport from an early age, they will have more passion for sports in the future,” the female athlete said. When we were at the National Water Sports Palace (My Dinh – Hanoi) and My Dinh National Stadium (Hanoi) – where swimming and athletics events were going on, we recognized the special attention from the international reporters who were working there.
