On June 27, Hanoi Committee for Ethnic Minorities in collaboration with Vietnam Exhibition Center for Culture and Arts held a meeting to praise good economic households and typical cultural households among ethnic minorities in Hanoi city in 2017 to celebrate the Vietnam Families’ Day June 28.

In the past years, the ethnic minority affairs have always been considered an important socio-political task by Hanoi City and received great attention from the City Party Committee, People’s Council and People’s Committee. In 2017, the capital’ areas of ethnic minorities have experienced remarkable development. The average annual economic growth rate has increased by more than 10%. The structure of plants and livestock has been shifted positively. Traditional trade villages have developed. There have been more and more models of household economy in terms of large-scale and diversification in production and business. The rate of poor households according to the multidimensional approach was reduced from 15.2% in 2011 to 13.38% in 2016. There are 5 in 14 ethnic minority commune recognized to meet new rural standards. These features affirm the care and support of all levels, disciplines, unions and social organizations as well as the efforts of each family and individual in caring for families in the capital’s ethnic minority and mountainous areas. In addition, the “All people join hands to build a cultural life” movement with a focus on building cultural families and villages has been intensive and achieved practical effects. Mass organizations have launched many movements such as “Good parenting”, “exemplary parents, filial children”, “studious families”, and so on, contributing to raising ethnic minorities’ awareness of the role of building a cultural life.

Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu awarded certificates of merit to good economic households and typical cultural families

In his speech to open the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Tat Vinh, head of the city Committee for Ethnic Minorities, said: “In order to facilitate the care for the happiness, prosperity, progress and equality of the capital’s ethnic minority families, Hanoi city has issued many preferential policies for ethnic minority and mountainous areas while investing thousands of billion for the ethnic minorities of the capital, creating conditions and drives to speed up the development. The concern and investment of the city have contributed to arouse the ethnic minorities’ sense of self-development to escape poverty. There is a growing number of examples of cultural households and good economic households among ethnic minorities, contributing to improving the material and spiritual lives of people, changing the appearance of villages and residential areas, making the homeland beautiful and civilized in the spirit of the Hanoi City Party Committee’s Resolution No. 06-NQ/TU dated November 31, 2011 on “Socio-economic development of Hanoi’s ethnic minority and mountainous areas”.

On behalf of the city’s leaders, member of the City Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu praised the achievements of the typical ethnic minority households in the area and awarded certificates of merit to 12 good economic households and typical cultural families. He suggested that in the coming time, apart from further implementing the policies on ethnic minorities, departments and disciplines should synchronously take solutions to provide both financial and technical support for the production of ethnic minorities. The localities should make full use of the potential and advantages of the hilly areas to study the development of appropriate economic models, bringing high economic values. In parallel with facilitating production, departments and disciplines should pay attention to finding outputs for agricultural products made by the people. This is a necessary condition for creating a sustainable production chain, bringing stable and sustainable incomes for the people to gradually step out of poverty.

At the meeting, the City praised 81 outstanding representatives in economic development and cultural family building, 12 of whom received certificates of merit from the Chairman of Ha Noi People’s Committee and the rest 69 received certificates of merit from the head of Hanoi Committee for Ethnic Minorities. These families have made important contributions to preserving and promoting traditional cultural values, leading the way of building a civilized lifestyle in the communities where they live and actively worked for the socio-economic development of the ethnic minority areas in particular and Hanoi in general.
