Besides, there are leaders of the Vietnam Sports Delegation and more than 300 coaches and athletes of the Hanoi Sports Delegation at the 31st SEA Games.
The leaders of Hanoi city and delegates and a large number of athletes and coaches attended the ceremony.
Speaking at the commendation ceremony, Mr. Do Dinh Hong – Member of City Party Committee, Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports said that the 31st SEAGAME has been successfully held in many aspects, from the work of preparation, the work of investment, the upgrading and completion of the facilities, the work of ensuring security and order, traffic safety, medical safety, communication, especially professional work with the participation of many athletes, coaches, experts and many other activities.
Vietnam sends a 1341-strong delegation to the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) with 1341 members. In which, the Hanoi Sports Delegation contributed 332 members, including 257 athletes, 68 coaches, 5 delegation officials, 2 team leaders, accounting for 27.02% of coaches and athletes of the Vietnam Sports Delegation. 257 athletes of Hanoi sports competed in 37 sports. The Hanoi Sports Delegation has contributed 72 international arbitrations and 70 national-level arbitrations for 24 sports participating in the Games.
At this sports festival, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation entered the history of the Southeast Asian Games with the first place, winning 446 medals including 205 gold medals and 125 silver medals, 116 bronze medals, breaking 21/30 the SEA Games record. Hanoi capital is the venue for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, where 25 sports are contested (of which 18 are directly hosted by Hanoi). Hanoi’s athletes excellently achieved 62 gold medals, 35 silver medals and 54 bronze medals; The total number of medals achieved was 151 medals, equal to 34% of the total number of medals of the whole delegation, making an important contribution to the overall achievement of the Vietnam Sports Delegation.

Mr. Do Dinh Hong emphasized: “In order to achieve excellent results, all officers, coaches, athletes and experts of the Hanoi Sports Delegation have gone through extremely difficult journeys with great effort. The Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports has directed the Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center to implement a specific professional plan for each sport. Excellent athletes are sent to short-term and long-term training in countries with developed sports in Asia, Europe. However, due to the outbreak of COVID-19 epidemic, the sport training is not implemented. To ensure the task completion, the City has flexibly deployed a professional plan suitable for each specific period, in order to ensure the highest performance at the Games.
The Hanoi Sports Delegation’s coaches and athletes in the composition of the Vietnam Sports Delegation, have tried their best, overcome all difficulties, unite, and compete together, with the highest effort, with the highest determination, showed bravery, Vietnamese human mind and positive attitudes: calm, confident, clever, creative, brave and successfully completed the task at the 31st SEA Games, making an important contribution to the overall success of the Vietnam Sports. Especially, The Hanoi Sports Delegation won gold medals in subjects competed in the Olympic and ASIAD, such as: Wushu (8/10 gold medals), Wrestling (8 gold medals), Boat racing (5 gold medals), Fencing (5 gold medals) ) 4/5 gold medals), Shooting (3 gold medals), Gymnastics, Water sports (3 gold medals), Weightlifting, Athletics, Judo, Karate, Taekwondo, Handball…In particular, athlete Lai Gia Thanh in weightlifting, athletes: Pham Thi Kim Thuong, Nguyen Trung Kien, Le Dang Duc Viet, Tran Thi Huyen Trang in water sports (Diving) excellently broke records at SEA. Games 31, with the achievement of 5 records out of 21 records of the Vietnam Sports Delegation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Dinh Tien Dung, Politburo member, Secretary of the City Party Committee, and Head of the city’s National Assembly delegation affirmed that Hanoi Sports Delegation’s achievements at the 31st Southeast Asian Games are worthy rewards for the efforts, efforts, orientations, perseverance of coaches and athletes; is the result of the care, support, and creation of best conditions by the families and relatives of athletes and coaches. Simultaneously, these excellent results affirm the city’s leadership, direction and methodical investment in the physical training and sports development strategy, especially the development orientation of achievement sport since many years in the direction of professional sports development, reaching major arenas in Asia and the world.
Mr. Dinh Tien Dung, Secretary of the City Party Committee emphasized, the city has prioritized investment resources in facilities, equipment for training and competition, meeting international standards; applied mechanisms and policies to support and reward coaches, athletes; organized for athletes to train and compete in countries with developed sports; created conditions for athletes to exchange and learn experiences to improve their ability to compete in prestigious international sports tournaments… Hanoi’s authority also has a policy to increase the use of international experts to directly train athletes. Those decisions show Hanoi’s determination to invest in sports for ASIAD and Olympic, taking the SEA Games arena as the basis to gradually reach out and approach the continental and world arenas. With the goal of building high-performance sports, developing professionally, reaching the ASIAD and Olympic arenas, aiming to empower Hanoi sports to develop faster, stronger and sustainable with the expectations of the Party Committee, Government and People in the capital, Mr. Dinh Tien Dung, Secretary of the City Party Committee suggested that the relevant authorities need to prepare practical actions. In the immediate future, the city authority continues to research to propose outstanding support mechanisms to detect and train many talented athletes for the Capital’s sports; promote investment in facilities and equipment for practice and competition, meeting international standards so that Hanoi continues to be the host for Asian and international sports events. The Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee suggested that the coaches and athletes are always humble, constantly learning, not satisfied with the results achieved as well as continue to practice improve professional qualifications.
After the commendation ceremony, Mr. Mr. Dinh Tien Dung suggested the Party Committee of the Hanoi People’s Committee need to request relevant units to thoroughly evaluate and identify facilities, equipment, athletes and coaches., international and national experts to immediately have a training and competition plan to participate in the 9th National Sports Festival in 2022; ASIAD in 2022; SEA Games 32 in Cambodia in 2023; The Paris Olympics in 2024. The Party Committees, authorities and the city’s political system continue to inspire confidence in the future efforts and achievements of Hanoi Sports Delegation as well as worthy of the position of Hanoi capital – a major sports center of the country.
At the ceremony, the Hanoi’s authority announced the decision to reward and award 147 coaches and 250 athletes with outstanding achievements at the 31st SEA Games with more than 17 billion VND. Athletes and coaches with excellent achievements were awarded Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the City People’s Committee with the bonus of 55 million VND/gold medal, 30 million VND/silver medal, 25 million VND/bronze medal. For coaches with athletes winning medals, the reward level is equal to 50% of that of athletes./.
