In commemoration of the 78th anniversary of the Traditional Day of Culture Sector (August 28, 1945 – August 28, 2023), on the afternoon of August 28, at the National Convention Center (Hanoi), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a Conference to commend outstanding and progressive individuals in the field of national culture for the year 2023.

The conference was attended by Mr. Pham Minh Chinh, Politburo member and Prime Minister. Also present were Ms. Nguyen Thi Doan, former Central Party Committee member, former Vice President, and President of the Vietnam Promotion Fund for Education; Mr. Lai Xuan Mon, Central Party Committee member, Permanent Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Committee; Mr. Doan Minh Huan, Central Party Committee member, Secretary of the Ninh Binh Provincial Party Committee; Senior Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet, Deputy Chairman of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People’s Army; Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Central Party Committee member and Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, among others. Notably, the conference honored 78 exemplary figures who have made outstanding contributions to the national culture.

This conference is one of the three major events organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Culture Sector and in preparation for the celebration of the Independence Day on September 2.

The occasion served to evaluate the emulation movement within the Cultural Sector and the implementation of the 6 tasks and 4 solutions for building and developing culture and the Vietnamese people in the new era, as outlined by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the National Cultural Conference in 2021.

This conference also provided an opportunity for the cultural, sports, tourism, and family affairs officials to review the formation, development, and contributions of the Cultural Sector. It deepened their understanding of the pivotal role and special significance of culture in the nation-building and protection efforts, as well as in realizing the aspirations for the prosperous and happy development of the country, aligning with the lofty goals of innovation and the glorious historical traditions of the nation spanning thousands of years.

78 exemplary figures were selected at the conference to represent the most beautiful flowers in the garden of outstanding achievements in the emulation movement of the Cultural Sector. These are modest yet noble examples that have made significant contributions to the entire sector and the nation, quantifiable through specific accomplishments. These endeavors have spread a positive spirit of “embracing beauty, dispelling ugliness” throughout society.

Speaking at the conference on behalf of the Party and State leadership, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed profound appreciation for the contributions and dedication of cultural officials nationwide. He warmly congratulated the 78 exemplary figures and acknowledged and commended the efforts and achievements of the Cultural Sector in recent times.

During the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh reiterated the unwavering commitment of the Party, State, and Government to the comprehensive care, issuance, and effective implementation of numerous strategies and policies, allocating significant resources for the construction and development of culture. This commitment extends to the preservation of national culture, the advancement of literature and arts, and various other cultural domains. The Prime Minister expressed his hope and confidence that the exemplary figures honored today would uphold their sense of responsibility, serving as a source of inspiration and motivation, robustly propagating authentic stories and deeds. Post-conference, it is anticipated that more commendable examples and effective practices will emerge, contributing significantly to the specific tasks of the cultural sector and the broader cultural development agenda.

At the conference, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung read the congratulatory letter from General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. In the letter, the General Secretary expressed his desire and confidence that those working in the cultural sector, especially the distinguished exemplary figures, would consistently heed the beloved teachings of President Ho Chi Minh: “Emulation is love for the country, and to love the country is to emulate.” This is seen as essential for leveraging their pioneering role, cultural values, and the strength of the Vietnamese people. It is expected to ignite the aspirations, willpower, and determination to construct and develop our nation increasingly prosperously and thrivingly. This will create a comprehensive strength for the entire nation to seize opportunities, overcome challenges, and successfully achieve the objectives set forth in the resolutions of the 13th National Party Congress.
