Completing 5 designs of souvenir products about the Temple of Literature

Accordingly, the contest Designed by Vietnam within the framework of Vietnam Design Week – VNDW 2021 with the theme “Awakening Tradition” found TOP25+5 including 25 designs in 5 main areas of the contest and 5 designs souvenir products about the Temple of Literature. These designs have gone through the finishing stage, starting to vote online..

Accordingly, the contest Designed by Vietnam within the framework of Vietnam Design Week – VNDW 2021 with the theme “Awakening Tradition” found TOP25+5 including 25 designs in 5 main areas of the contest and 5 designs souvenir products about the Temple of Literature. These designs have gone through the finishing stage, starting to vote online from November 1 to November 30 at https://vietnamdesignweek.com/designed-by-vietnam/top25-5/.

In order to preserve and promote cultural heritage values, improve the quality of tourism products to serve tourists of the Temple of Literature relic, the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities of the Temple of Literature collaborated with the Designed by Vietnam Contest 2021 with the theme “Awakening Tradition” to offer a separate topic “Designing souvenir products about the Temple of Literature”. Launched from the beginning of August 2021, the Designed by Vietnam Contest 2021 with the theme “Awakening tradition” with its own topic “Designing souvenir products about the Temple of Literature” has found 5 unique designs and has entered the finishing stage, including Khue Van Cac – In compressed tea by author Pham Vu Khanh; “Chieu” chess set by author Nguyen Quoc Duy; Round trip by author Luu Nhu Ngoc; Literature by author Ho Truong Thanh Truc; Souvenir epitaph by Vu Viet Duong.

 “Khue Van Cac – In compressed tea” design

“Khue Van Cac – In compressed tea” design, by author Pham Vu Khanh select the image of Khue Van Cac and use ancient Shan Tuyet tea ingredients to produce fermented tea products. In the Vietnamese culture, tea is a drink from thousands of generations, the author chose the image of Khue Van Cac bearing the symbol of Hanoi capital, promoting education, symbolizing Vietnamese culture and education.

The design of the “Chieu” chess set by author Nguyen Quoc Duy was inspired by the imperial edict, the royal decree of the king, used in feudal times, used to issue orders, call to fight the enemy or move the capital. The chessboard surface is laid out on the “Imperial edict” plate. The material used for the chessboard is brocade cloth, using the submerged motifs of Quoc Tu Giam to bring the colors of tradition and respect the history of the feudal period.

At the same time, the author also wants to contribute to his culture a more lively daily entertainment.

 “Round trip” design

 “Round trip” is a design of a set of assembled ceramic paintings, a souvenir product at the Temple of Literature. Designed with the desire to reduce the source of non-recyclable materials, when using broken pieces of pottery in Bat Trang pottery village, in addition to being able to regenerate the material, but also respecting the traditional beauty of the pottery village with hundreds of years of history. Tradition is not only reminiscent of nostalgia, but it is also the source of future creations, through the theme “Awakening Tradition”, a product with the desire to contribute to the trend of sustainable design as well as awakening the sentiments about culture, the beauty of traditional craft villages and the studious spirit of the Vietnamese people.

  “Literature design

“Literature” was built from illustrations of typical architectural symbols of the Temple of Literature. The identity set of the Temple of Literature was originally formed with 5 architectural areas: Van Mieu Gate, Khue Van Cac, Doctor’s Steles, Bell Tower, and Gac Trong, to impress visitors with the characteristics of an ancient building in Vietnam, and the orientation of conservation along with the development of art and culture. The products in the souvenir set are accompanied by functions used in the field of study and office – to bring the image of the Temple of Literature to become a representative of people’s learning and self-improvement.

Finally, the set of items “Van Bia” is designed with the original version of the turtle carrying the stele, inherited from the ancient capital. This main design is made from natural wood material covered with lacquer and gold lettering according to the traditional method. There are also different versions of materials and modern functions close to life. The above idea expresses the desire to bring heritage closer to the masses and heritage and is also considered as inspiration in life through interacting with products in daily life.
