Conference calling for cooperation in implementing Hanoi-Creative City initiatives

By organizing a series of creative activities for everyone, the Festival will contribute to promoting the support of the strategic goal of cultural industry development in association with economic and social development, establishing “a creative belt” with Hanoi and other cities and provinces to form a large network.

In the next 3 to 5 years, RMIT University will continue to support the Hanoi People’s Committee, the Department of Culture and Sports to develop Hanoi – a creative design city through the organization of the Vietnam Innovation and Design Festival and its partners; organize & coordinate or co-organize ad coordinate activities with VICAS and UNESCO; develop human resource development; pilot Creative Design Centers; pilot building a digital archive of Vietnamese Art, Design and Culture.

From the experience of successfully organizing architectural contests such as Hanoi and 36 streets… an idea for a beautiful street corner or a project to restore Hanoi’s architecture with 3D technology; contest ideas to create Thong Nhat park for everyone, Hanoi Fly- Hanoi, views from the air, Ashui Vietnam Joint Stock Company will organize Vietnam Design Week 2021 with the theme of awakening tradition to honor the products of excellent designers in Vietnam in 5 fields: Communication, Furniture, Apparel and Decoration, Apparel and Public. Notably, the activities of Designing souvenir products about the Temple of Literature; Workshop “Creative design from cultural resources of the Capital”, Exhibition “TOP 25+5 Designed by Vietnam 2021”, Workshop “Awakening Tradition” for students and young designers. It is expected that the activities will take place from November 27 to December 3, 2021 in Hanoi (Centre of Cultural and Scientific Activities of the Temple of Literature), Hue and Ho Chi Minh City with coordinated activities.

The Association of Handicrafts and Crafts of Hanoi is currently focusing on implementing the development project of the “Center of Vietnamese Craft Villages”. From the potential of craft streets and craft villages, the Association decided to establish a Center to promote the value of Bat Trang pottery, on an area of 3300 m2, including a “Composition Camp” to compose works of art products, develop an “Incubator” area for young generations, university students who want to make pottery, love pottery, come up with new design ideas, new products, or sell research project ideas to manufacturers. Organize exhibition space to welcome sightseeing, experiences and exchanges tours. Organize a discussion art space, by inviting international and domestic ceramic experts and artisans in traditional craft villages with much knowledge to inspire and support crafters to improve their knowledge, grasp trends and orient production activities in accordance with the needs of the market. Besides, there are culinary and resort services to serve the needs of visitors.

Speaking at the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts Studies said that Hanoi can stay in the ranking when it can implement 3 local initiatives and 3 international initiatives. Accordingly, Hanoi needs to include creative projects in the chain of initiatives to make Hanoi the creative capital of Southeast Asia.

Hanoi needs to use an inclusive design solution to deal with issues of space, heritage, and inherent resources to come up with initiatives; design an identity set, a set of guidelines related to the initiative to promote. The initiatives at today’s Conference are suggestions that can develop into local initiatives or international initiatives. As a research agency, the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts Studies will accompany Hanoi’s events related to the Creative City.

Sharing the same opinion, Ms. Tran Hai Van, representative of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism hopes that Hanoi will put cultural data into the index system of the General Statistics Office of Vietnam to see the contribution of culture in the general development of Hanoi; consult the information of cities that have been recognized as innovative cities for greater connectivity; organize surveys to socialize, see the world, and position yourself. With the cooperation of businesses, we will join hands, consider the city as our own to create together and integrate internationally.

Through the exchange and discussion, the Director of the Department of Culture and Sports, Mr. Do Dinh Hong hopes that agencies, units and businesses will cooperate in implementing initiatives. Hanoi has always determined, in culture, people are number one, so it must invest human resources to build culture. We will be responsible for the community, strengthening cooperation with other countries. The result of the cooperation is to find innovative products. From the advantages of the Red River, Hoan Kiem Lake, walking space, cultural and art space, it is expected to develop tourism, services, technology and telecommunications, ensure security, safety, promote the creative force to develop the cultural industry, demonstrating Hanoi’s determination in fulfilling its commitment to UNESCO, building Hanoi into a “Creative City” in the field of “Design” in South Asia.
