Departure ceremony for Vietnam Sports Corps to participate in the Tokyo Olympic 2020

On the evening of July 13, in Hanoi capital, the Vietnam Olympic Committee held a departure ceremony for the Vietnamese sports corps to participate in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Attending the ceremony were the Politburo Member, Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Pham Binh Minh and members of the Vietnamese sports delegation attended the Tokyo Olympics.

Thus, after a one-year postponement due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Summer Games will officially take place at the end of this month. And on the evening of July 13, the Vietnam Olympic Committee held a ceremony to see off the Vietnamese sports delegation on its way to Japan to attend the “special” Olympic Games.

According to the list, the Vietnamese sports delegation to attend the Tokyo Olympics 2021 with a total of 43 members is led by Mr. Tran Duc Phan – Deputy Director-General in charge of the General Department of Sports as the team leader. In the delegation, there are 2 doctors, 4 officials, a reporter, 18 athletes, the remaining 18 are coaches, experts and team leaders.

The list of 18 athletes of the Vietnamese sports delegation participating in this Olympic Games includes Le Thanh Tung, Dinh Phuong Thanh (gymnastics), Quach Thi Lan (athletics), Nguyen Huy Hoang, and Nguyen Thi Anh Vien (swimming), Hoang Xuan Vinh (shooting), Truong Thi Kim Tuyen (Taekwondo), Do Thi Anh Nguyet, Nguyen Hoang Phi Vu (archery), Nguyen Tien Minh, Nguyen Thuy Linh (badminton), Luong Thi Thao, Dinh Thi Hao (rowing), Nguyen Thi Tam, Nguyen Van Duong (boxing), Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy (Judo), Thach Kim Tuan, Hoang Thi Duyen (weightlifting). In the list of 18 names to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, Hanoi is honored to have 4 athletes, including Dinh Phuong Thanh (gymnastics), Do Thi Anh Nguyet (archery), Dinh Thi Hao (rowing boat racing), Nguyen Thi Tam (boxing). If not punished by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) due to the doping scandals of Vietnamese weightlifting in the past 3 years, Hanoi Sports will also have one more athlete in the Tokyo Olympics, namely Vuong Thi Huyen (weightlifting).

At this Olympics, Vietnamese athletes will compete in 11 sports including swimming, shooting, badminton, weightlifting, gymnastics, boxing, Judo, Taekwondo, rowing, archery and athletics. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Vietnamese sports made history with the first gold medal at an Olympics by archer, Hoang Xuan Vinh. The goal of the Vietnamese sports delegation at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 is to strive for a medal. Currently, the team members have completed 2 full COVID-19 vaccinations.

Speaking at the departure ceremony, on behalf of the Government leaders, Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Pham Binh Minh cordially sent the officials, experts, coaches and athletes of the Vietnamese sports delegation health and luck, always compete with nobility and honesty for the sake of the colors of the national flag to get the best results at this Olympics.

The Vietnamese sports delegation attended this Olympics with 43 members, including 18 athletes competing in 11 subjects. I know that in the past time, the coaches – athletes have overcome all difficulties, trained hard with the highest spirit of determination and will, especially in the context of the long and complex Covid-19 pandemic situation.
“Olympic is a fierce sports arena, gathering many sports powerhouses, many of the world’s top athletes. I hope all officials, athletes – coaches are aware of the responsibility as well as the honor entrusted by the country:
Firstly, trying to compete with the highest determination, because the colors of the flag and bring out the best in the Vietnamese people’s qualities: agility, ingenuity, ingenuity and bravery; also upholding honesty with noble sportsmanship
Secondly, being an example of solidarity in activities and competitions, respect for customs and traditions, and absolute compliance with the laws of the host country as well as the regulations of the Congress.

Thirdly, each member of the delegation must really be goodwill and sincere messenger to promote the country’s fine cultural traditions, peaceful and friendly image through the Olympic playground. I believe that with the serious and thoughtful preparation, determination and efforts of the members, Vietnamese sports will win the best achievements at this Olympic Games. Wishing the Vietnamese sports delegation participating in the Tokyo Olympics healthy – determined to win and succeed.” The Deputy Prime Minister delivered a speech on direction and assigned tasks to the Vietnamese delegation at this Olympics.

As planned, on July 18, the Vietnamese sports delegation will fly from Hanoi to Tokyo, 5 days before the opening time of the Olympic Games. At the airport, the Vietnamese sports delegation will be tested for Covid-19.
After receiving the results, the delegation returned to the athletes’ village and was quarantined for 72 hours, doing all the Covid-19 tests according to the regulations of the Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee. When no athletes are positive for Covid-19, Vietnamese athletes will be officially allowed to compete at the Tokyo Olympic 2020.
