On the evening of 25th March, Ha Noi Capital coupled with 62 cities and provinces in the whole country all together turned off the lights and unnecessary electricity appliances within an hour, from từ 20.30 – 21.30 hrs, in order to respond to the Earth Hour 2017, with the theme: Turn off the lights – Turn on the future. As the result, the national electricity network managed to save upto 471 kwh, equivalent to 764 million dongs.

Delegates start with the off-light ceremony, calling on the masses to respond to 2017 Earth Hour Campaign

At Ha Noi, attending the ceremony was Minister of Trade and Industry Tran Tuan Anh, leaders of the Department of Energy (Ministry of Trade and Industry), Deputy Chairman of Ha Noi People’s Committee Nguyen Doan Toan, ambassadors of the campaign and thousands of students, pupils and city folks living and working in the Capital.

Speaking at the function, Minister of Trade and Industry Tran Tuan Anh said, for a nearly half a month, the campaign of 2017 Earth Hour has been actively responded by the provinces and cities in the entire country, with a great number of ebullient, diversified and significant activities. “In responding to the Earth Hour 2017, Viet Nam has reaffirmed her efforts made by people in the commitment to environmental protection, saving and effective utilization of the existing and future energy sources; asserting that Viet Nam wishes to develop a greenly and sustainably oriented economy”.

Minister Tran Tuan Anh also called on every body, individual, family and businesses to proactively save energy and join their hands in coping with climate change by taking simple actions as turning off the lights and unused electricity appliances.

Also speaking at the event, Deputy Chairman of Ha Noi People’s Committee officially appealed to the city folks to spontaneously respond to the campaign by their minute actions like turning off electicity appliances, water source whenever unused, abiding by the municipal orders,.. by doing so, it would help greatly convey the best images of Ha Noi Capital to people in the whole country and interntional friends.

Deputy Nguyen Doan Toan stressed: The campaign of 2017 Earth Hour has been observed on a widespread scale in the districts, towns on the area of Ha Noi city, and has received positive participation from agencies, offices, students, young intelligentsia and people in the Capital. At the same time, the city has started a movement of “Family household saves electricity and energy”, mobilising organizations and individuals to atively take part in the joint action of environmental protection, energy savings, climate change prevention.

This is the 9th year , Ha Noi and other provinces and cities in the whole country has held the “Earth Hour”.

Thousands of youths, people responding to the campaign

In conjuntion with the 2017 Earth Hour event taking place in Ha Noi, lights had been also switched off in Ho Chi Minh city and Da Nang city, as well as in other 60 provinces/cities in response. As the result, the national electricity network managed to save upto 471 kwh, equivalent to 764 million dongs.
