This activity was held on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam – Laos (September 5, 1962 – September 5, 2022), 45th anniversary of signing of the Vietnam – Laos Friendship and Cooperation Agreement (July 18, 1977 – July 18, 2022).

The Lao delegation including Politburo Member, Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat, Vice President Bounthong Chitmany; Politburo member, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction Sinlavong Khutphaythoun; Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Sounthon Xayachak attended the Opening Ceremony of the Exhibition

The Vietnamese delegation including Politburo member, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh; the Secretariats of the Party Central Committee: Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia, Chief of Office of the Party Central Committee Le Minh Hung; Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung attended the Opening Ceremony of the Exhibition.

Members of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, members of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam; comrades in the High-ranking Delegation of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in Vietnam; leaders of the Office of the Party Central Committee, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, agencies, organizations, political organizations, ministries, departments and branches at the Central Government and the City Party Committee, the People’s Committee of Hanoi city attended the opening ceremony.

The exhibition was organized to propagate the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between two Parties, two States and two Peoples of Vietnam and Laos in the struggle for national independence, construction and development of country. Especially the great historical achievements reflected the friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos over the past 35 years of renovation, as well as contributed to consolidating and strengthening the relationship of friendship and solidarity in the current period.

The exhibition including nearly 500 documents, photos, artifacts and books introduced to the Vietnamese and Lao public the great achievements and great role of the great friendship and special solidarity between two countries to the revolutionary process of each country, focused on emphasizing historical turning points, important events, and typical achievements that the Vietnamese and Lao peoples had gained in the course of the struggle for national independence, construction and development of country.

The Exhibition included three parts, Part 1 theme of “Some features of the history of relations between Vietnam – Laos, Laos – Vietnam“, introducing the close, loyal and transparent relationship between the two countries throughout the history of national construction and defense.

Part 2 theme of “Establishment of diplomatic relations and tightened combat alliances Vietnam – Laos, Laos – Vietnam (1962-1977)”. On September 5, 1962, Vietnam and Laos officially established diplomatic relations, opening a new phase in the history of relations between two countries. Under the leadership of the Vietnam Workers’ Party and the Lao People’s Party (later the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party), the combat alliance of the two countries including troops and peoples had been increasingly tightened, greatly helping the people, the armed forces of the two countries to gain victory continuously, culminating in the Great Victory on April 30, 1975 in Vietnam and the Victory on December 2, 1975 in Laos.

Part 3 theme of “Promoting the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam – Laos, Laos – Vietnam in the cause of national construction and development (1977 – 2022). “. With the task of restoring and developing socio-economic, enhancing political stability and consolidating defense and security, relations between Vietnam and Laos has promoted and expanded in all fields, meeting the requirements of the two countries’ revolutions in the new period, in line with the fundamental interests of two peoples and the thoughts of President Ho Chi Minh, President Kaysone Phomvihane and President Souphanouvong on  solidarity between Vietnam – Laos, Laos – Vietnam.

An exhibition of documents, photos, artifacts and books on “Great friendship and special solidarity between Vietnam – Laos, Laos – Vietnam” took place at the Vietnam National Museum of History from July 18 to October 18, 2022. And this is one of many  activities in the “Year of Solidarity and Friendship between Vietnam – Laos and Laos – Vietnam in 2022”, contributing to portraying the “great friendship and special solidarity between Vietnam – Laos and Laos – Vietnam”
