According to Nguyen Hong Khai, festival chief organizer, “Thien Mon Dao kung-fu sect was established in the countryside along Day river of Hoai An district, Ung Thien capital in 18th century, now Ung Hoa district, Ha Noi city. The founder of Thien Mon Dao kung-fu sect was Mr. Nguyen Khac Cong (i.e. Nguyen Van Cong). He played a mandarin part under Tay Son dynasty, an essential member in the fighting force against foreign invaders, ordained by the King at that time and carved his name on the stone stele at Bach Linh temple (Bach Linh Tu), which is a national cultural and historical relic belong to Hoa Nam commune, Ung Hoa district, Ha Noi.

After participating in fighting against foreign invaders and going back to the hometown, Mr. Nguyen Khac Cong both taught and took care of the martial arts work in the area and was given the responsibility by the government to command the kung-fu sects.

The second generation was Mr. Nguyen Khac Nhuong. He was both a teacher and a master of martial arts, being a great example of virtue, opening heart for everyone everywhere, absorbing the martial arts quintessence and also fulfilling his work at the sect, and an excellent successor of his father. Next, the third generation in the family was Nguyen Khac Di, a renowned teacher specializing Chinese characters and martial arts as well who had a large number of followers in the area.

The 4th descendant of the Thien Mon Dao sect is Master Nguyen Khac Tri. The activities as well as the existence and development of Thien Mon Dao were then associated with the history of fighting against the French colonial aggression and the birth of the Vietnamese Communist Party.
A special feature is that the Nguyen Khac family is not only famous for their both scholar and a warrior, but also for teaching and teaching martial arts. Almost all Du Xa villagers are students of Nguyen Khac Nhuong, a Confucian scholar and master of kung-fu, and also the head of Thien Mon Dao the second generation. Achievements to destroy the enemy “Quang Thua” (Ha Nam) extended his talents and wisdom to far-away boundaries, “Du Xa” once again becomes revered “title”.

Currently, the generation maintaining and developing Thien Mon Dao sect is the 5th descendant in the Nguyen Khac family and that responsibility belongs to Abbot Master Nguyen Khac Phan.

Over the centuries, Thien Mon Dao has constantly continued and promoted the martial spirit, the sense of organization and discipline, health and intellectual training in the cause of building and protecting the country, as well as crystallization of the martial arts quintessence of the nation over hundreds of years, Thien Mon Dao has also relentlessly improved and supplemented the martial arts quintessence, manner and the “morality” of learners practicing martial arts in modern life, which is reflected through cultivation and training programs such as the art of body forge, horse stance, forms, kicks, weapons, confrontation, antagonism, martial arts self-defense, martial arts fighting, martial arts performance, kung-fu, etc., outer force, qigong, outer force – kung-fu, qigong – kung-fu, constitutional qigong, functional qigong, and art of awakening, medicine, morality, etc.

Now, Thien Mon Dao has been developing more and more systems with many dojo and thousands of people practicing. In addition, Thien Mon Dao has actively participated in the mass culture and sports movement and is recognized as a unit with excellent sports movement for many years.

In the Festival, Thien Mon Dao reported the activities of 2018 and set up the direction of the following year. Also at the Festival, the organizers listened to valuable speeches as well as its proposals to build and develop Thien Mon Dao kung-fu sect.

At the Festival, the organization board recognized and awarded the units, learners and students with the process of working contributing to the development of Thien Mon Dao.

Earlier, on April 25, the festival also took place the activities of ancestor worship at Thien Mon Dao temple; offering incense at Quan Thuong, Dinh Xuan, Martial arts founder’s tomb, Duyen Khanh Pagoda, Bach Linh Temple, Martyrs Memorial, etc.

In 2018, Thien Mon Dao kung-fu sect was honored to receive an award of Vietnam Record Society which also honored Nguyen Khac family for successfully preserving, inheriting and promoting the martial arts tradition of the lineage, as well as contributing to the development of Vietnamese martial arts, contributing to the reputation of the Vietnamese National Martial Arts.
