Ha Dong improves the efficiency of library operations

Ha Dong Library has currently over 11 thousand books and 10 types of newspapers and magazines. The library is open from Monday to Friday during office hours, attracting many pupils, students, and also the elderly.

In addition to the district library, 132 bookcases, reading rooms and 1 private library called Hung Phuc were built to encourage people to read books, in which, bookcases of Van Phuc ward, bookcase of living group 6 in Nguyen Trai ward, bookcase of living group 4 in Dong Mai ward, and the friendly library of Quang Trung High School are the most effective ones. Especially, the friendly library of Quang Trung High School contributes to improving the quality of teaching and learning and building self-study habits for students. The friendly library model is being replicated in the district.

In order to better serve readers, Ha Dong Library organizes training courses for grassroots librarians to helps them gain more knowledge, improve their library skills, and regularly transfer books to grassroots bookcases. The new books purchased or donated are regularly introduced by the Library on the district radio system and displayed at the Center’s Library. Librarians also actively participate in professional training courses organized by the Department of Library and Hanoi Library, or the contest for good librarians. Ha Dong Library usually organizes books and newspapers exhibition every year on holidays and celebrations of the country. In 2020, the Library will organize an exhibition of books and newspapers to celebrate the Party and Tet holiday of Mouse year, the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the City Party Committee, and the 130th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s birth.

In response to Vietnam Book Day April 21, and World Book and Copyright Day April 23, every year, Ha Dong district carries out many activities such as displaying art books, organizing Book Festival, talks on reading culture with many different topics: Books – an endless source of knowledge; Read to go and come; What will our future be without books; Books change the life; Books help us fly to success, etc., attracting thousands of readers.

Vietnam Book Day in Ha Dong district not only creates a sound reading space, but also contributes to encouraging the formulation and development of reading culture, providing more knowledge, inspiring the spirit of inquisitiveness, spreading the love for books, and promoting reading culture in the community. One of the most effective activities of Ha Dong District Library is to organize, in collaboration with the Department of Education and Training and the District Youth Union, the annual contest for children to propagate and introduce summer books. To this effect, the District Center for Culture, Information and Sports holds preliminary competitions in the district, participated by 100% of the primary and secondary schools in the district in recent years. The competitions were successfully organized thanks to the district’s effective direction and supervision, and the schools’ enthusiastic participation. For participants to achieve high results, before each competition takes place, the District Center for Culture, Information and Sports held a training course on content, purpose and meaning of the competition for the general manager and person in charge of participants from each school. As a result, Ha Dong district has always gained high achievement with effective propaganda every year. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual contest for children to propagate and introduce summer books was not be held.

To improve the operational quality of the library system, Ha Dong district aims to build a modern library system, functioning as a community-based cultural activity center which provides services so that people coming to the library may read books, relax, and access the internet to look up information and improve their knowledge; develop and well implement the plans for training and fostering grassroots library staff and librarians to improve their professional qualifications; promote the socialization regarding the culture in general, and the construction of community-based private libraries and family-scale libraries in particular; establish more bookcases in residential groups and residential areas to serve people; enhance propaganda and guidance to attract all classes of people for libraries, contributing to improving people’s knowledge and building and developing reading culture in the community./.
