The competition was held to find the best design solution to build Kilometer Zero milestone – one of the important items in the Project to build, renovate and embellish the area around Hoan Kiem Lake, complete public space, worthy of the scale, stature and value of cultural-historical relics, special national-class landscapes.

The competition is for consultancy, design, school and research institutes of culture, art, architecture, etc.; Vietnamese citizens who are sculptors, painters, architects, students majoring in culture, fine arts, architecture, etc.

The entries propose a design plan for Kilometer Zero milestone – Hoan Kiem Lake, Hanoi in one of 3 locations provided by the Organizing Committee. The work demonstrating the Kilometer Zero milestone is special, showing geographical signs, highly symbolic, modern but still cultural and historical identity of Thang Long – Hanoi thousand years of culture. The work must be a public work of art in harmony with the landscape of Hoan Kiem Lake, as a cultural symbol, space highlight, a unique tourist destination indispensable in the itinerary to visit the Hanoi capital.

The competition entries must satisfy the functional requirements of the Kilometer Zero milestone project, be in harmony with the surrounding space and landscape and the approved investment project to build, renovate and embellish the area around Hoan Kiem Lake. Besides, the work must have unique, national and era creative ideas to create an artistic highlight of Hoan Kiem lake space. At the same time, it should meet the special symbolism not only of the Kilometer Zero milestone project but also shows the cultural characteristics of Hanoi city, evoking the feelings of the people of the capital and tourists.

The Organizing Committee will receive the entries from now until the end of July 6, 2020, at Architecture Magazine, Vietnam Association of Architects (No. 40 Tang Bat Ho, Pham Dinh Ho Ward, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi city). Authors participating in the competition must be responsible for copyrights and related rights under the law.

The Board of Examiners includes prestigious experts and managers of Vietnam Fine Arts Association, Department of Cultural Heritage, Vietnam Cinema Department (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), Vietnam Association of Historical Sciences and Vietnam Association of Architects.

The Organizing Committee plans to award 1 First Prize (worth VND 100 million), 1 Second Prize (worth VND 80 million), and 1 Third Prize (worth VND 50 million) for excellent design work. The closing ceremony, awarding and exhibition is scheduled to take place on July 15, 2020.
