On November 30, the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA) held a ceremony to honor and present the Vietnam Smart City Awards 2023 for the fourth time. The program is part of a series of activities promoting the development of smart cities organized by VINASA. Hanoi City is honored to receive the Attractive Startup and Innovation City Award.

Director of the Department of Information and Communications, Nguyen Viet Hung, received the Attractive Startup and Innovation City Award.

The award, held annually since 2020, aims to recognize and encourage provinces, cities, real estate investment units, industrial real estate, and technology enterprises with solutions that contribute to the smarter and more sustainable development of urban areas. These solutions are designed to provide benefits for residents and facilitate the connection of supply and demand, fostering collaboration to create suitable model projects for the rapid construction and development of smart cities in Vietnam.

The Vietnam Smart City Awards 2023 was launched on July 20, 2023. After nearly three months of implementation, the award received 100 nominations. Through three rounds of preliminary evaluation, presentations, and final judging, a panel of 20 leading experts in the fields of planning, architecture, technology, and state management assessed and selected 32 Vietnam Smart City Awards 2023. Among them, seven awards went to four urban management units, one award for industrial real estate, and 24 awards for outstanding technology services and solutions.

At the award ceremony, Hanoi City was honored with the Attractive Startup and Innovation City Award. With “Smart” as the keyword in the Hanoi Planning for the 2021–2030 period and the vision for 2050, Hanoi is committed to developing data as a new resource to drive the construction of a smart city.

This July, Hanoi issued the Open Data Catalog. These specialized datasets will be deployed and shared internally within state agencies and citizens’ organizations in the coming time. Hanoi is also focusing on implementing digital infrastructure and data centers to be operational for use in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Da Nang City received accolades in the categories of Intelligent Operation Center, Infrastructure Management, Intelligent Public Services, and was notably recognized as an Outstanding Unit in the Construction and Development of Smart Cities in Vietnam for the year 2023.

Tay Ninh Province was acknowledged for its Intelligent Operation Center (IOC) in this distinguished event.

Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City, with its ongoing implementation of intelligent applications that demonstrate tangible benefits for residents, businesses, and the community, stood out as a noteworthy contributor to the smart city landscape.

Additionally, the organizers presented one award for Industrial Real Estate and 24 awards for excellent technology services and solutions, honoring both domestic and international enterprises for their outstanding applications and digital products that contribute to Vietnam’s digital transformation and the establishment of smart cities.

Beca Smart City, a platform developed by Vietnam Technology and Communication Joint Stock Company, a member of Becamex IDC, particularly shone by receiving a 5-star rating in the Intelligent Operation Center (IOC) Solutions category.

According to the Ministry of Construction’s 2022 report, after five years of implementing the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 950/QD-TTg on the development of sustainable smart cities in Vietnam during the 2018–2025 period, and with a vision toward 2030, 48 out of 63 provinces and cities have been actively advancing smart city initiatives. More than 40 localities have introduced Provincial-level Intelligent Operation Centers (IOCs), with nearly 100 IOCs established at the district level.

Current smart city initiatives focus primarily on the implementation of IOC systems and intelligent urban utilities, emphasizing areas such as intelligent transportation (monitoring traffic order and safety), smart healthcare, intelligent education, and the development of warning applications.

Aligning with the government’s policies, the Smart City Awards not only acknowledge the efforts and achievements of various government levels but also serve as a catalyst for further development. To date, 142 awards have been presented, including 23 for municipalities, 3 for real estate projects, and 116 for technology solutions.
