At the Olympic qualifying round 2020, rowing has just ended in Japan; two athletes Dinh Thi Hao and Luong Thi Thao together finished in 2nd place and excellently won tickets to Japan in the lightweight double sculls. In the first time participating in the Olympic qualifying round, two Vietnamese athletes made the opponents respect when they took the lead from the start and when they were 5m from the finish line, they were surpassed by the Japanese athletes to finish second in 7 minutes 17.34 seconds. Because 3 countries with the best achievements are selected in the content to participate in the Olympics, Vietnamese athletes, along with Japan and Iran will participate in the Olympics this summer.

In addition to two athletes Luong Thi Thao and Dinh Thi Hao, another Vietnamese rowing athlete who also reached Olympic standards in the ongoing qualifying round in Japan is Pham Thi Hue in the women’s single sculls, when she finished 4th position in the final, while the organizers stipulate that the top 5 athletes will go to the Olympics.

However, in this qualifying round, there is another rule that each country can only have a maximum of one boat to attend the Olympics and the boat with the higher position will be awarded tickets, so this honor belongs to the two athletes Luong Thi Thao and Dinh Thi Hao.

Born and raised in Tuyen Quang, but Hanoi is the place to help Dinh Thi Hao “understand and love” rowing and become a key athlete of the national rowing team.

As an athlete of the Hanoi Boat Racing team, Dinh Thi Hao is considered as a person who always has a sense of discipline, obeys and strictly implements the difficult exercises set out by the coach. Her spirit of competition and her efforts to make effort is very good.

With such training effort, after more than 8 years of working with the rhythm of rowing, Ms. Hao has respectively won Gold and Silver medals in Southeast Asian Championships, Asian Championships, and Asian Cups; most notably, with her teammates, she won the precious Silver Medal at ASIAD 18-2018.

With the journey ahead, the Training Board of the Vietnam Boat Racing Team hopes that Ms. Hao will be able to replace her senior in the journey to win the SEA Games gold medal and prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifying round.

As expected, at the Olympic qualifiers for the Asia & Pacific region in Tokyo, Dinh Thi Hao and her teammate Luong Thi Thao got an extremely valuable Olympic ticket for Vietnamese sports after runner-up in the women lightweight double sculls.

Thus, Luong Thi Thao and Dinh Thi Hao became the seventh and eighth Vietnamese athletes to attend the Tokyo Olympics. Previously, the remaining 6 tickets belonged to Dinh Phuong Thanh, Le Thanh Tung (gymnastics), Nguyen Van Duong (boxing), Huy Hoang (swimming), Phi Vu, and Do Anh Nguyet (archery).
