Attending the launching ceremony were: Director of Library Department, Mr. Pham Quoc Hung; Chairman of the Vietnam Library Association, Mr. Nguyen Huu Gioi; Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, Ms. Tran Thi Van Anh; Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Education and Training, Mr. Pham Xuan Tien; leaders of Hanoi Library, Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee and all teachers and students of Trung Vuong Secondary School.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Tran Xuan Ha, the Director of Hanoi Library, launched the 1st Hanoi City’s Reading Culture Ambassador Contest 2021. The speech emphasized: Books are close friends to people, and treasures of great spiritual value and invaluable achievements transferred from one period to another, from generation to generation. Reading books directs people to truth, goodness and beauty, books convey humanistic content, educate people about mutual love, truth and beauty, human lifestyle and morality, and help people towards good things in life. Talking about reading, President Ho Chi Minh once advised: Diligently reading books and reading many books is a valuable job.

Implement the Project “Development of reading culture in the community to 2020, with orientation to 2030” according to Decision No. 329 dated March 15, 2017, by the Prime Minister, Plan 62 of the Hanoi People’s Committee on the development of reading culture in Hanoi by 2025, with orientation to 2030, Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with Hanoi Department of Education and Training organizes the first Hanoi City’s Reading Culture Ambassador Contest 2021.

The contest aims to arouse interest and passion for reading among teenagers and children; thereby encouraging the promotion of plagiarism among the young generation, forming reading habits and skills for students, contributing to the development of reading culture in schools and the community.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, the Director of Library Department, Mr. Pham Quoc Hung said: The Cultural Ambassador contest has been organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism since 2019 and after two years of implementation, the contest has attracted a large number of participants of students across the country. Typically, in 2020, more than 1 million pupils and students from more than 5000 high schools and universities participated. In 2021, after more than 2 months of launching, the Ministry of Public Security, Vietnam Education Publishing House, nearly 60 provinces and cities and more than 20 universities and academies participated in organizing the preliminary round of the contest. It proved that the reading culture is still being nurtured, spread and developed widely in the community, especially for pupils and students.

For Hanoi, 2021 is the first year the city organizes the Preliminary Round of the Reading Culture Ambassador Contest. This is an activity directly advised, developed, implemented and launched by the Hanoi Library at Trung Vuong Secondary School. The Director General of the Library Department Pham Quoc Hung believes that: Trung Vuong Secondary School – a school with a rich history, glorious tradition and proud achievements during more than 100 years of construction and growth, its students not only strive, practice, accumulate learning, creating, but also maintain and develop reading habits. Especially, enthusiastically responded to participate in the Reading Culture Ambassador Contest 2021 to share many good and useful books, effective reading methods to friends and people around, spreading the love of reading, development of reading culture in the young generation and in the community.

On behalf of students from Trung Vuong Secondary School, Nguyen Ho Thuy Linh, grade 6i gave a speech in response to the Contest. Also at the launching ceremony, the Organizing Committee presented certain books to Trung Vuong Secondary School.

With the organization of the 1st Hanoi City’s Reading Culture Ambassador Contest 2021, the Organizing Committee wishes that through the contest, the students of Trung Vuong Secondary School in particular and the pupils, students in Hanoi, in general, will continue to promote their passion for reading, share good books, effective reading methods, encourage people to read books to inspire and spread the love of reading culture in the community. This will be a practical activity spread throughout the city, a practical cultural activity to continue the campaign to study and follow Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, morality and style. Also, this is an activity organized to celebrate the country’s important event, which is the election of deputies to the 15th National Assembly, People’s Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term and towards the 31st SEA Games and the 11th ASEAN Para Games which will take place in Vietnam.
