The activity also aims to meet the reading needs of the Capital people, develop Hanoi’s culture and people on the basis of promoting the tradition of Thang Long – Hanoi thousand years of civilization, City for Peace, Creative City and absorb the cultural quintessence of mankind.

Accordingly, in 2021, the city will focus on organizing activities to improve reading skills and methods for people through the organization of Vietnam Book Day (April 21); the Capital Children’s Contest communicates and introduces books in 2021; exchange of authors and works; display and exhibit books commemorating major holidays and important events of the country at the City Library, district libraries, school librarians, community libraries, etc. to encourage and develop reading activities in the community; organize classes for guiding reading skills and methods at libraries, schools, etc.

Besides, the city builds, consolidates and strengthens the public library system; encourages organizations and individuals to establish and maintain community libraries and private libraries serving the local community; maintains and develops the network of libraries and bookcases in Hanoi. It is expected that 10 new libraries and bookcases will be established in 2021.

Library services are also more diversified. In which, the mobile library service is expected to be held at 50 school sites in the suburbs of Hanoi, serving 40,000 students and 120,000 books. Increase circulation of books and newspapers with the expected number of 50,000 copies to 125 local libraries, bookcases, school libraries, prisons and private libraries serving the community in the city.

The city also organizes training in professional skills and management knowledge for librarians at the district and library network and librarians in schools.

Hanoi has organized many activities to celebrate the 8th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day on April 21.

 In particular, in 2021, Hanoi will organize the 7th Hanoi Book Fair, which is expected to be held from September 29 to October 3 at Thang Long Imperial Citadel (located at 19C Hoang Dieu, Ba Dinh District). ) with main activities such as Book display and exhibition; organizing seminars and talks between management agencies, researchers, publishing associations, domestic and foreign enterprises; areas for introducing books of domestic and foreign publishers; book launch exchanges, copyright trading and exchange activities, cultural exchange programs, contests; campaigns to support and donate books to school libraries and cultural post offices of mountainous communes and communes with special difficulties, etc. Organizing seminars and book exchanges among Youth Union members and students of universities and colleges in the city; art exchange programs with the participation of students in the city within the framework of the Hanoi Book Fair.

The Hanoi People’s Committee assigned the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports as the standing agency, to be responsible for presiding over and coordinating with other departments, agencies and sectors to organize the implementation of this plan.

Through reading culture activities, we will introduce the intellectual and cultural values of Hanoi and Vietnam to the world, and select and absorb the quintessence of human knowledge and culture to introduce and popularize in Vietnam.
