On the morning of August 22, 2022, at the Great Hall of the University of Industrial Fine Arts, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports cooperated with the University of Industrial Fine Arts to organize the launching ceremony of the contest “Creative Hanoi” and signed a cooperation agreement on promoting activities in the field of creative design and development of cultural industries in the capital. The contest “Hanoi Creative” is co-organized by the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and the University of Industrial Fine Arts. The contest aims to find new and unique ideas in creating spaces, designing innovative products for Hanoi on the basis of exploiting the advantages of modern industry, human resources and promoting the cultural and historical values to create creative spaces that attract community participation.

The contest is ongoing until November 2023. In phase 1, the Organizing Committee will select works that are worth participating in the contest from now to October 2022 and display them at the Hanoi Innovation Week 2022 in November 2022. In addition, the Organizing Committee also hopes that through the contest, it will connect students with units, organizations and individuals who have demand for design human resources in the society.

Potential contestants: All students of the University of Industrial Fine Arts.

Requirements for the entries: containing unique ideas and solutions to create impressive creative spaces, designs and products, worthy of being a place to inspire emotions, creating motivation for innovation and promoting creative thinking; At the same time, creating a different image for the city and for life in the context of globalization; Proposing innovative and open space organization solutions to attract the community and improve connectivity to create a creative ecosystem that supports cultural, community and business development activities, being able to display and organize activities in various cultural and creative fields; Expressing ideas of ​​a model of activities in space (including exploitation, operation, management) to attract and stimulate participation and creativity of social groups such as artists, writers, entrepreneurs, youth groups, consumers and other people; Giving solutions to organize creative spaces for the community on the basis of exploiting and inheriting urban heritages; Showing humanistic creative solutions in design, encouraging people to participate; especially paying attention to disadvantaged groups in the community such as the poor, people with disabilities… Focusing on feasibility in practical implementation; Using local materials, applying new technologies to promote rationality and intelligence; being products created by artistic materials that reflect buildings, spaces, heritage… in order to promote communication for the Capital…

Some topics suggested by the Organizing Committee include: Interior and exterior of public works; Decorating squares, flower gardens, parks, cultural houses…; Designs, graphic images for works and cultural and artistic contents of Hanoi; Fashion designs and accessories associated with Hanoi; Factories, industrial parks in the city; Products promoting strengths in culture, history and craft villages; Products applying new technologies… The works must be unique solutions, designs, and urban space organization with a breakthrough, openness, and community attraction; combination of modern technology and traditional historical and cultural values; inheriting urban heritages… The contest has 03 First prizes, 06 Second prizes, 09 Third prizes, 15 Consolation prizes and 10 online voting prizes. The total prize value is up to VND 200 million. Valuable works will be selected for display and implemented in practice.

The Organizing Committee has set a goal of having between 1,000 and 2,000 students in different majors to participate, with about 6,000 to 8,000 works.

At the ceremony, Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Do Dinh Hong said, The contest aims to concretize the commitments of the Hanoi People’s Committee to UNESCO in constructing the Creative city; look for new and unique ideas in creating creative spaces, designs and products for Hanoi. Finding new values ​​in creative spaces, designs and products will create an impetus to develop a creative economy, promoting Hanoi to become a creative hub of the Southeast Asia region and the world’s destination of knowledge and creativity.

According to Rector of the University of Industrial Fine Arts Pham Hung Cuong, with the motto that training must always be associated with practice, the school always creates favorable conditions for lecturers and students to participate in social activities and art projects. The contest “Creative Hanoi” will be an environment to connect students and individuals with demand for design human resources in the society; facilitate students to experience the real environment and contact with cultural and historical values, to create creative spaces that attract the participation of the community; provide a panoramic view from the perspective of many experts in the field of space design and public art, orienting the development path for students and is also a movement accompanying the title of “Hanoi – Creative City” awarded by UNESCO. The school will mobilize resources from lecturers, students and exploit their strengths, integrate the contest content into the specific lessons within the training program to select valuable works which can be applied in practice to contribute to the overall development of the Capital.

Chairwoman of the Hanoi Handicraft and Craft Village Association, Ha Thi Vinh, said that the “Creative Hanoi” contest is the first and typical activity for schools in the city to learn and cooperate with Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports to implement cultural industry development in the capital area. Hanoi has the strength of craft villages. The city’s craft villages account for about 40% of the total number of craft villages in the country. The craft villages are the cradle of students’ creative ideas. The craft villages will cooperate with students of the University of Industrial Fine Arts to help them realize their creative ideas and win prizes to contribute to the development of the capital and the country.

On behalf of more than 2,000 students of the University of Industrial Fine Arts, student Hoang Thanh Thao of the Faculty of Fashion Design, speaking in response to the contest that the “Creative Hanoi” contest creates favorable conditions for students to have more opportunities to interact with the practical environment and access historical and cultural values, thereby helping students improve the quality of their research assignments, at the same time supporting their skills, and accumulating more experiences beneficial to their future career. At the same time, it opens up opportunities for units and businesses, especially those related to the topic of Hanoi, to participate in the learning and working process of both teachers and students of the School; finally opens a large-scale exhibition where the works of students’ assignments will be displayed and approached closer to businesses, which is the premise for businesses to easily evaluate as well as select human resources for their recruitment…
